I had a very frightening experience this afternoon. When I exited the dollartree I did not know where I was. I figured that out and could not figure out how to get to Joann's which is just down the mall. Have you ever had a similar experience?

After I have a seizure and I'm in the postictal stage. I temporary don't know where I am what happened or what I was doing. I gradually come out of it though.

That's really interesting one of my friends think I might've had a mini stroke things were kind of dark for a few minutes.

Did you have low blood sugar?

Could be I'm very sugar sensitive. It goes with gluten intolerance. I think it's an accumulation of it just too much stress. At the moment I'm waiting for a callback from my doctors office

Make sure you hydrate if you are under stress. Not hydrated can cause that as well!

Got some great advice yesterday and really worked on staying hydrated today. Call the doctors office and my phone didn't ring when they return the call. Then they never return the call again so I'm still waiting

Call back and apologize for missing the call, and tell them you will be available.

👆 TQ go talk to a medical professional. Hopefully it's nothing but if it's something time matters on these things.

I have had very weird days where my mind just wasn't right. Luckily it's only happened once, maybe twice.

I'm sure it is stress related. However, you should still see a doctor. Stress can bring on many different health related issues. It's best to get checked out. 💚💚

Does dementia run in your family? I would want to know if my mother and father experienced this.

That isn't - by itself - a symptom of dementia or Alzheimer's. Both my mom & grandmother had Alzheimer's & Bear's mom had dementia. Combined with *other* things, it would be my first guess.

What she described I've experienced throughout my life during times of stress. Which isn't to say it isn't a good idea to speak to a doctor, especially if it happens more than once or twice in a short period of time.

I dont know if it's similar but one time I was driving home from work and I was supposed to go visit my friend. It wasn't really late, maybe 9:30 or 9:45. But it was pitch black outside, and I was driving and I didn't recognize where I was, even though I was on the same road I take to work at least 4 times a week so I was very familiar. I didn't know where I was and I didn't know why I was driving that late until I looked down and saw my work shirt. It was really weird

Yes. That's the same thing.

The brain just gets wonky from time to time & *many* experience that and just dismiss as a "wow. That was weird!" thing, which sometimes is all that it is.

Sounds scary. Is this the only instance of confusion you've had? I'd chalk it up to stress, but it could be something more serious if it becomes an ongoing problem. Please consult your doctor if this keeps up.

Just a suggestion if it should happen again. Stop, spin around twice. Sounds silly but your brain might reorient itself after doing this.

Yes but I have absence seizures and I'm with other people. It's just a very short confusion like thing.

My youngest son had a few of those. Trileptal and one other med for 5 years and now he's off the meds and seizure free. His were "partial absence seizures."

Sorry, "simple partial seizures" was the diagnosis and they're like absence seizures.

Martin, could you ask your mom to explain to me what those absence seizures look like to someone that is with you? I have often wondered if a loved one is having them. Thanks!

You can find them on YouTube.

A simple absence seizure looks like the person just stares into space. They are very fast and hard to catch. A complex absence seizure lasts a bit longer and usually hand flapping happens.

12/20/16 5:34 pm

Thanks, Martin. The person that I'm talking about was called slow by his family when he was a child because he was slow to respond to them. I often get frustrated that it takes this person so long to respond to a question or to make a decision.

When you have these absence seizures, do you miss what a person is saying, or is it so quick that you hear it, but that you might respond more slowly like I'm talking about? And do you know if these would show on an MRI of the brain or an EEG? Thanks again!

RussianThunder Russia and USA
12/20/16 5:54 pm

I am totally blank. I don't really remember having them but I don't respond when I have them.
Perhaps the person also had a processing disorder. That goes along with ASD. If I hear something (Russian or English) or see something (RSL or ASL), I am slower to respond. I'm not stupid (I'm not that smart either, just kind of normal) but my brain processes slower. I have a half sister who is the same way and she has 5 kids. I have 3 brothers like me as well. My brother Artyom is severe. It takes him a while to process what you say. You can see him struggle. Edik is like me. Manya, my half sister is a bit slower in processing time than Edik and I.
My seizures can be mistaken for daydreaming if a person does not know I have them.
I have a guy in my class, Amar...he has to wear a helmet because if there is a type of seizure you can have, he has it. He literally just crumples. It's frightening.

Stress - all by itself - can cause this. Especially when it is out of the blue & not repetitive. Lack of sleep, too many things on your mind, being physically tired... even low blood sugar can account for it.

Return home if that's practical/safe or at least stop somewhere you can eat some high protein something & collect yourself for a bit. Don't just push through as though nothing happened, checking off your errand list. Your body is telling you to rest.

It was a common occurrence for me back when complex PTSD was an issue, but it still happens occasionally when Fibromyalgia is acting up or I just simply am pushing myself too hard. This fall with everything going on it happened more often than it used to.

Most of the time I was just trying to do too much too hard & I tend to not eat when I'm stressed.

elianastar Gab.ai FreeSpeech
12/19/16 11:52 pm

That, alone, could do it. Not enough protein, too many carbs! When we're stressed it's way too easy to not take the care of ourselves we'd scold anyone else for doing. 🙂

Listen to "the momma inside" - that little voice that says, "you know that's not the best thing to do for yourself," and try not to ignore it cuz doing otherwise *feels* better right now. You almost always pay for it later.

If it starts happening a *lot*, see a doctor cuz it could be something else to pay attention to. But it's likely just an isolated thing because you haven't taken proper care of yourself. 🙂

And it IS very unnerving & frightening! As often as I've experienced it, it rattles me at least a little every time. I know the "checklist" of what might be responsible, so the first thing I do is check those off.

It is almost always that I've simply not been treating myself properly.

Oh, I just thought of something else, something I'm guilty of failing to do: are you drinking enough water - plain water, not tea/coffee/etc, but plain water or with a slice of lemon/lime or a TBsp or 2 apple cider vinegar.

Your brain is more water than anything. Failing to stay properly hydrated - especially when ill or stressed - really stresses out brain function.

I was thinking the exact same thing with protein. Give your brain a quick rush of proteins and fats and it often just reboots itself. Part of the reason eggs and buttered toast in the morning are good for you.

It hasn't happened to me... yet.

I think you're dealing with considerable anxiety currently, from multiple sources, and I think that can result in memory or confusion issues.

But it may also be indicative of some other issue, so it would be a good idea to make your physician or some other medical professional you trust (therapist? gynecologist?) aware of it. And most definitely do that, please, if it happens again.

With my furnace broke and I've been using space heaters, didn't think much of it because their electric. Apparently unless I misunderstood and news article they can ahead give off some carbon monoxide. Furnace man comes tomorrow.

*Electric* space heaters don't give off any kind of gas. That's what we've used since we've been RVing. Propane heaters can, though.

I hope to heaven it it's just a reaction to stress. I did not even recognize where I was at first. Look familiar. I found my way to Joannes and get some relaxing when I got home. Other than that my memories been good.

I would bet money (& I don't bet) that it is stress related. Get more protein, eat more fresh fruit, do some deep breathing exercises to better oxygenate your brain & nervous system, knit more 😄 ... play mindless games, whatever destresses you!
