237 years ago the United States declared independence from Great Britain. Do you think the United States will still be a country in another 237 years (2250)?
I doubt it.
Why is that?
C'mon, no country is as great as ours and there still standing. Every country has it's innovations and falls, but none such as great as ours fall in such a short period.
You would be surprised how fast a world power can fall from the global scene, not that it will, but it can happen fast
Rome fell when they split into two sides, East and West. That very well may be our fate if some states secede
Although to be fair the East survived for another millennium. The west simply lacked the resources necessary to combat the barbarians amassing on their borders. So once they spilled across the Rhine they started giving them land and jobs, and, wait..
Yes Rome divided into 2 but still a country, and Russia still is a country. The question was not of the size, but of it disappearing which won't happen any time soon.
Rome split in two the east disappeared and the west became the Byzantine empire. The time frame may not be close though.
We won't be the world power, but we will be around.
Maybe we'll be two or three by then?
If we can just wait for all the gloom and doom republicans to slowly fade away I'm sure things will be just fine :) It gets better with each generation!
Kinda down hill since shays rebellion.
Democrats need to become more fiscally conservative while republicans need to become more socially liberal. That is where the bright future of America lies.
^ I can agree to that!
(To angerer's post)
"It's all the other sides fault" is the attitude which partially explains why we're so divided.
Personally, I have sufficient disagreement with both major parties such that I belong to neither of them.
I agree with Angerer. We need a party that combines the two like that. fiscally conservative, yet socially liberal
What would it be then?
Not sure lol
Do you guys want to start a party with me? Lol I can't be our presidential nominee because I'm not 35, but we can find someone haha
The Party for the Freedom and Success of the American People or PFSAP for short.
What's our stance on everything?
Yes if we survive Obummer.
Not chance if we keep going down the road we're on.
As a people, we're not as bright as we tens to think of ourselves.
"Group think" has replaced reason.
So how did the fast go Angerer?
It went well. I waited until midnight and then I shoved my face with papa johns.
Yeah I waited until midnight and had myself two subway footlongs lol
I doubt we'll have the same geographic boundaries 50 years from now, and it won't be because of expansion.
So states will secede?
Possibly. I'm not saying it'll be a violent dissolution. The USSR dissolved with nary a bullet being fired.
This is nonsense. The USSR dissolved (according to Huntington's theory) because without an external enemy, there was no further justification for a miserable existence so that animosity was projected onto an internal enemy
It's one thing if people are starving because citizens are told they're in a struggle against America. But when America is no longer a reason to point to and say this is why you're miserable, people saw their government for what it was and fought back
If you want to actually study this from the point of the scholars, I'd point you to Kenneth Waltz, Keohane & Nye, and other leading political scientists
America has (through the nameless/faceless idea of terrorists and insurgents) cornered the market on having an external enemy for years to come. One that can be pointed to in all manner of ways as a reason for people to sacrifice their liberty.
which is why the NSA seems to have free reign to do all sorts of things and people just accept it.
Kinda funny how it works out to exactly 2,250, huh? Lol
