Actually both. We have a fireplace in our house that is ventless gas that we run during the winter time and then have a fire every night in the summer in our fire pit. Believe it or not I have a fire even when it's 90° out. Love every moment of it.
We have a fireplace and we never use it. To me it's like a hole in the house. The only thing it's good for is decorating the mantle at Christmas. It's impossible to buy any kind of house without one here.
After years of sad gas fire places, we bought a house with two wood fireplaces - love it! I'm sitting in front of one now with a glass of Maker's. You can't beat the ambiance, but I think I'll turn one into a wood stove to actually heat the house.
Why does that fireplace not have a screen in front of it, at least? Fireplaces aren't very useful for actual heating, and big blazing fires like that are particularly unhelpful for heating; they just draw cold air in.
Why is that fire pit in a place with a roof over it? Isn't that a fire hazard? I guess I understand fire pits a little... sort of an urban campfire? Still seems a bit of a waste to me. I'd probably vote for it except for the roof over it. Since both situations look unsafe to me, though, I guess I'll just flip a coin to re-vote.
Both, one for inside and one for outside. I voted for the fire pit though, since the fireplace indoors should be sealed, vented to outdoors, and fueled by natural gas if it is available, or propane where it is not.
Fireplace. Our house came with the setup for one, but we put a gas one in instead...much tidier. Very nice for carousing with the wife on a cold weekend night :)
Haha I love my gas fireplace! I used to be all about the wood burning one but it really is soooo much easier and has the same overall effect .. Nothing beats the smell of a wood burning one tho
Odd. I always pictured you as the type to cluster around a firepit eatin' beans like the cowboys from Blazing Saddles :D m.youtube.com/?#/watch?v=VPIP9KXdmO0
