In last month’s election, Donald Trump won the majority of votes in the electoral college. Who do you think won the most popular votes? (Reason for poll in comments)

Well this isn't a matter of opinion. The numbers are out there; google it if you're curious.

Always amusing when a significant number of my SOH peers don't have a clue though. Always seems to follow the same trend when looking at the political breakdown, too.

They are making reducing the democrat vote by the estimated fraudulent votes.

The only cases of voter fraud I heard about this election cycle were Trump voters voting in multiple states. So...

Right. Nobody knows, nobody has audited these votes. It's just speculation at this point.

Hillary won the popular vote, but that isn't how we do presidential elections in this country so who cares?

I saw in Detroit that more ballots (democratic) about 306 were cast but when they opened the ballot box it only had 50 ( Wayne county)
They found this in several counties.
The irregularities were such that the AG will look into it!
37% of counties - too many votes
In Detroit precincts Detroit News...

I wish people would get over the whole popular vote thing. It's irrelevant.

It's not quite irrelevant. Though the result of the presidential election is based on the electoral college, it definitely has some bearing on political capital & popularity of the new president.

Only in California. Trump won the rest of the states by 1.4 million. But, California has essentially become a one party state where it doesn't even matter if Republicans vote, which means many probably stayed home. Regardless, Trump won 30 states to 20 and 306 electoral college votes to 232. It was a clear and decisive win and it's time to move on.

It would be interesting to have a recount in CA

You should let everyone in solid red & blue states know their opinions don't matter just because their votes in presidential elections don't either.
If it was so irrelevant, why would Trump tell a blatant lie about winning the popular vote without "the millions who voted illegally"?

Krystina Let Freedom Reign

It would be interesting to find out how many illegals voted in Cali. But, it doesn't matter either way, just as the popular vote doesn't matter.

Good point. Trump is like diarrhea his brain seems to run everywhere . One hour he hates something and next hour he loves the same thing. Typical con man

You're saying that, in a solid blue state, millions of illegal immigrants would jeopardize being deported to cast a vote that (already admitted by you) wouldn't matter?
I'm having trouble making sense of your argument.

Had it been a popular vote, both candidates would have run different campaigns. It's apples to oranges.

Many of us in CA question how many illegal aliens voted. Remember illegals can now obtain drivers' licenses which could register them as voters even though they are not eligible. The liberal powers that be shrug it off rather than verify. If a total recount was done, I believe many votes would be found fraudulent. Unless you live in my state, CA, you have no idea how enormous the problem is and how absolutely liberal it has become. I am a 76 year old 3rd generation CA native - southern CA was at one time very conservative.

So that's a good thing - no longer repressive conservative

Evidently not to Drump . He claims he won both by landslides to sooth his narcissistic mind - even knowing both are not true.

You do understand that the popular vote in each state determines that states electoral votes . So retract your wrong conclusion that popular votes don't matter

Reason for Poll: the Washington Post reports that when this question was posted in nationally representative online poll 52% republicans said yes even though Clinton won by millions. www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/monkey-cage/wp/2016/12/18/a-new-poll-shows-an-astonishing-52-of-republicans-think-trump-won-the-popular-vote/

Don't you recognize those answers were wrong not because the republicans can't read or don't watch the news. They were doing an in your face comment?

TerryQuinn Stardust

Yes, that's what I assume as well. Though I wonder how many people believe Trump won the popular vote, because they believe the million extra votes for Clinton were fake/stolen votes. In any case, I was curious to see how SOH results compare.

I was thinking of doing this same poll for the same reason. Shared.

Thanks Squidboy. It's interesting that a) the results are almost the same so far (41% vs 52%), and b) some Trump supporters are so bothered by this poll. It's just a simple question.

Here in CA it's illegal to check for your ID at the voting booth. The question isn't if there's voter fraud, just how much.

Squidboy Snarkapottamus
12/20/16 10:51 am

Why is it assumed that only Democrats would commit voter fraud?

sea California
12/20/16 11:06 am

Because the democrats are the ones who don't want people to have IDs at the voting booth. Although ironically they do want to provide drivers licenses to illegals.

BlackC
12/21/16 10:20 am

Correction democrats want it easy for all types of citizens to vote but not without some convenient multiple affordable ways to verify they are eligible to vote . Republicans tried and trying to make it impossible for poor people to vote by closing down vote centers , gerrymandering districts in their favor, expensive IDs , stopping early voting that harms working people etc etc

sea California
12/21/16 10:29 am

That may be their intent but of course having no ID creates opportunities for fraud.

Squidboy Snarkapottamus
12/21/16 10:34 am

It's a lot of work to vote more than once and with the exception of one Republican dingbat this year, there was no legit voter fraud revealed....even with a few audits. If we are worried about election integrity, I'm more worried about possible hacking of voting machines, they are very unsecure. I'm also disappointed in attempts at gerrymandering & voter suppression. Both very undemocratic tactics.

Except every state requires voter registration - it's those republican states that make it extremely hard for low income people to vote. No American values when this practice is promulgated by republicans for the sole purpose of ensuring a win.
