Andrew Garfield, cast as Peter Parker in the Amazing Spider-Man (2012), has presented the idea to producer Matt Tolmach of a gay or bisexual Spider-Man for future films, suggesting that maybe "MJ", Spidey's lover, could be a male character. Thoughts?

Peter Parker is whiny and annoying as a straight guy. Any amount of fabulous they can add: yes please.

As a lesbian, I say NO WAY. There's no reason to do it other than create controversy. I'm tired of controversy. Leave Spider-Man out of it.

I HATE when they change characters. You want a gay superhero, that's fine. Create one, don't steal someone's idea and change it!

Enough of this gay stuff already. There are some straights left in America.

He specifically made reference to bisexuality, can we please stop f*cking making it all about ~teh gayyyy~

Bisexuals exist and we're tired of being erased in favor of other LGBTQ groups.

Garfield should stick to listening to the director. As MJ stands for Mary Jane in reference to the marijuana Stan Lee was smoking. Also I don't think he realizes that the production company has an obligation to make money off the box office.

Also if Spider man was a poop pusher Stan lee would have clearly wrote it in and let everyone know of the characters sexual preference. Gotta love an actors theory.

I am very socially liberal. Y'all know that. But this is stupid.

Imagine a kid (boy or girl it doesn't matter) who is already obsessed with Spider-Man. New Spider-Man movie comes out and he's all of a sudden gay. Then comes the question...

"Why did Spider-Man change? Is being gay a choice? Did Spider-Man chose to be gay now?"

Not a good message at all. In fact it's the absolute opposite of what we should be teaching out kids.

Want a gay super hero? Make one.

That's just odd to me. I have nothing against being gay, but changing an established character in that way would be strange.

Keep your politics and social experiments out of my comics and heroes. Make your own. : )

I said no, not because I'm anti-gay or anything, but I personally like it when superhero movies stay as close to the original comics as possible. I would be totally down with a new gay or bi superhero!

Stop subverting old characters to new ends. You want a gay/bi/whatever superhero? Write a new gay/bi/whatever superhero.

The is definitely not a gay thing. I just say, come up w/anew character then go ahead now or later & add the "twist." I have a little niece & nephew that understand being gay. This will just confuse them since it's...cont...

an established spidee/girl friend relationship. For the sake of the parents who once again have to explain how being gay works & the poor kids who barely grasp bf/gf & dad/dad, mom/mom. I hope they don't do it. Good "twist" for adults. Make an ”R"?

It's just the wrong platform to make political statements like this. It's just a superhero movie aimed at kids meant to show some fighting scenes a little bit of romance and usually some really cheesy dialogue.

I don't have a problem with a gay or bisexual plot, but comic book movies should stay as close as possible to the original storyline.

You gotta admit..it wouldn't be TOO bad. Lol.

Exactly. I feel as if Spider-Man being gay or bisexual in the next film would only be acceptable if his original comic-book character were gay or bisexual as well. In fact, just changing Mary Jane's name to Molly Jaspreet would irk me, gender aside.

And I say that because if MJ becomes a male, her (his?) name would be changed to a more "masculine" name.

bballard92 taste the rainbow
07/10/13 11:41 pm

I never said I thought MJ should become a male. They should just incorporate a new love interest thus creating a crazy love triangle..which people love. And I wanna see him kiss another hottie, tbh. ;)

And yes..therefore take another route than the comics. But there's nothing wrong with the director/producers forming their own version of spider-man.

Apparently Electro (Jamie Foxx) is supposed to be a creepy Spider-Man fanboy in the next movie. Maybe they'll end up falling in love. That'd be an interesting plot-twist.

I was kidding. I'd hate that. I want them to follow the comics and kill off Gwen Stacy, bringing Mary Jane into Spidey's life.

Right, stay true to the comic. If you want a gay superhero, use one that already exists or create a new one for that purpose.
