...but if I have to pick one, I say terrorism.

Great question! Very thought provoking for me.

Both. Radical Islam is the biggest terrorist group we've had problems with. But they aren't the only ones. If you haven't noticed the world in general kind of hates us.

I have noticed and it makes me uncomfortable!

The world in general doesn't care about us. What you are seeing is how much easier it is to express a negative opinion than a positive one.

Neither, it is just a rallying phrase used by a former leader not known for his oratory skill or command of the English language. The announced enemy was the nebulous "terrorism", so to the extent we're at "war" with anyone, I'll go with that.

Why are we still at war?
We have become the aggressor. bin laden is dead.
Stop illegal wars. Bring troops home.

Lets do that. We can seat around a bong singing Kumbaya until the next attack.
Bin-Laden is dead so I guess the other 100 million radical muslims will seat down, share a joint and dream about world peace.

Tell me, why we are still in Afghanistan?
The Taliban didn't attack us. Al Qaida did.
12 years after 9/11 we are still fighting the Taliban.
We went to Libya w/out congress approval. We are now pondering Syria. We cannot afford to be world police.

Let them be angry at us without our presence in their country. If they attack us again then we will go to war again if approved by congress.

We are at war because we are at war with terrorists.

The other superpower China hasn't been in a war since Korea/Nam. Canada w a sim culture remains at home. Both have thriving econs. We can't pay for education, roads, deficit, borders, healthcare etc. This is absolute madness. It's time to stop!

Commonsense:
That answer isn't good enough.
"Why? Because I said so"
We aren't doing anything to help relations by fighting them. We won't change their hearts and minds.

We are at war due to them attacking us and our allies. I don't understand, what are you confused about?

Who ordered the 9/11 attacks? those people have been captured.

Now we are fighting the Taliban. We seem to be in a state of perpetual war.

Say your neighbor, Mr. Taliban, calls the neighbor kid, Alvin Qaeda over to his house and gives him a gun and ammunition. He tells little Al to practice shooting in his back yard, and finally sends him to your house to shoot you.

Is Mr. Taliban your enemy?

Terrorism is a tactic. Radical Islam is a movement that uses terrorism.
We're at war with the movement, not their tactics.

we're against islamics because we're too stupid to realize all of Islam is not terrorists.

I think that's why he said "radical Islam," which most people agree is different than mainstream Islam.

even radical Islam isn't all terrorists.

Neither were all the nazis, but we still recognized that their whole ideology as a threat to the rest of the world instead.

Aren't those mostly the same thing? I know there's an occasional non-Muslim act of terrorism, but it's most Islamic in nature.

We're at war with radical Islam. It is the core belief behind their aggression and their hatred. It's no different then being at war against fascism. The nazis used terror tactics too, didn't mean we were fighting terrorists.

Radical Islam.

I'm not politically correct and I'll call things what they are. No sugar coating, unfiltered, cold, hard, brutal truth.
Go ahead and give it another name, you know as well I do, I'm right. You just don't have the guts to say it aloud.

The problem with this was is its very hard to actually fight a radical religion. I think we have lead by example and possibly pull out of the war now...maybe. One things for sure, 9/11 happened and in our best interest may be to stay over seas

It is hard to fight against a radical religion, if you don't know how. "Sextus, you ask how to fight an idea. Well, I'll tell you how... with another idea!" - Messala, in Ben Hur.

We should be sending missionaries of all kinds to convert our foes.

Seems to me both, but I really do see your point about terror being just a tactic. We sure don't have a plan to defeat radical Islam though. It's a war that we can't win if we don't change our ideology as a nation.

It seems to me pointless to war against a tactic, of all things. We are at war with radical Islam. Just as we have been at war with other harmful ideologies for almost the last hundred years. Nazism, communism, radical Islam.

Thank you for acknowledging its 'radical' Islam, not just Islam.
