There are at least 3 mystery series I'd love to see in GOOD movies: John Sandford's Lucas Davenport; Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch, & Lee Child's Jack Reacher. But I mean GOOD representations of the characters in the books. The choice of Tom Cruise

character in the movie version of Connelly's Blood Work, which managed to unveil repeating character as a psycho killer, which sort of ruins the plot of at least one subsequent novel, as far as a movie version goes.

Movie versions of mysteries that I think have been done well (proving that it CAN be done) are the British remakes of the Swedish films-for-TV of Henning Mankell's Kurt Wallender series (*excellent*), & both versions of Larsson's "Tattoo" series.
