An article in Forbes (link in comments) has suggested that the Texas Miracle is not only real, but when compared to Texas' counterpart, California, it proves just how real it is. Do you think Texas is an ideal model for the nation?

I see the approach texas is taking as not perfect but better than most, especially compared to the liberal California approach.

Interesting read. Although I think every state needs to create their own model to follow. Texas' might fit some states better than others and its apparent that its working there, but not every state has its qualities and advantages.

It's a biased article: the guy is hawking his book and is vice president of policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

It completely ignores 1) the federal grants and subsidies that allowed the "miracle", and 2) the quality of life comparison.

Texas pays out more money than it takes in from the Federal government unlike California which takes in more than it pays out...

It's not an economic analysis, it's a tourism editorial.
Surprising: Texans blindly pimping Texas.

Who is more in depth with knowledge about Texas? Texans or the rest of the country?

When you're comparing yourself to the rest of the country, you don't have complete information. So, you're wrong either way.

Comparing California to Texas shows what happens when government thinks that everything evolves around it. It unsustainable and you tax yourself out of prosperity. But hey the weather is great in California thats about all thats left.

Well, there's always room for improvement. I'd go into it, but I work nights, and now it's time to sleep.
