If you could completely learn just one language and speak it fluently at this very moment, which language would you choose?
Dog. But seriously probably italian
French! It's natural to want to learn the language your name came from =)..
Spanish. It would certainly make my job easier.
Arabic or Chinese. Lots of money to be made
Polish because it would make me grandpa very happy or Romanian so I could actually hold a conversation with my best friend's parents. haha
That's some cool heritage :)
I took 2 years of Swedish in college. Years later, visited Sweden, tried to remember my Swedish. They were delighted, but kept asking me why I had learned it. "No one speaks it but us, and we all speak English."
Italian with Portuguese in a close second
Love the first choice :) I would like to learn Portuguese if I ever visited/moved to Brazil
I really love Bossa Nova music even though I'm not 86 and I would love to able to understand exactly what they're saying. Also, I'm dying to go to Carnival someday soon!
That's what I said! :)
Carpe diem. :)
I wanted to learn German so bad for THE longest time I still do haha. I bet it would be cool to be able to communicate with your German-speaking family :) do you know a little bit of it any?
Maybe Mandarin Chinese or Arabic!
Though I'd love to speak Brasilian Portuguese and Italian too.
I like your choice :)
Im learning latin now and I cant imagine being able to speak it fluently. It takes me five minutes to write out one sentence because of all the cases and endings. I would love to speak it fluently even if though it isn't spoken anymore.
French would be fun.
Such a beautiful language :) that's my second choice immediately after Latin
Ancient Egyptian but Spanish is much more practical..
Portuguese. For my major, I have to learn at least two other languages. I'm choosing to do Spanish and Portuguese, but I also want to learn French and Latin... I might have to do more than just two : )
Spanish makes the most sense for me.
Yeah it's definitely the most practical choice for me, especially since at least half of my coworkers are Mexican. I just find other languages more beautiful and want to learn them xD I need to reteach myself Spanish though
Italian so I can finally finish my 2 Italian classes and only 2 classes I need to graduate college.
Woooo that's exciting!! Love Italian :)
Yea it's not that exciting haha. I'm second generation Italian and my grandfather is fluent but my dad is not so I blame him for me not knowing diddly.
Spanish. My French and Latin are useless here.
Latin. It may be dead but who cares? It's beautiful.
Right :) we'll totally learn it someday!! (Soon hopefully lol)
It is a must. Bucket list!
Latin isnt dead, its just not spoken. There are still thousands of texts written in latin that you can look at and read. If I were to learn latin, it wouldnt be used to speak, but to read.
Latin is considered a dead language. A language is considered dead when there are no native speakers left. It split up into which the Romantic languages developed from resulting in pseudoextinction of the language, though Latin didn't literally "die"
Just one? Boo.
Maybe something like Finnish or Russian? But French or Spanish would be more useful...
Forget useful, haha. :)
I want to learn a dead language...
Ohhh that would be fun! To know a language no one else knows! You can be an expert on the language and translate old writings found.
:D I've always had a strange fascination with ancient culture and language. I love history. (:
I know I know but I had to make the question a little interesting y'know xD I love foreign languages with a passion and have a (rather large) list I'd love to learn ❤
Yeah I thought of Spanish too bc of practicality but I used to know it just needto
reteach myself again how to speak fluently lol. But omg Russian is one of the ones I would love to learn!!! I love it!!
Yeah me and my friend both want to learn Latin really bad and one benefit we talk about is we're like, well we could totally talk and have a conversation and NO ONE would understand us haha!
Pretty much! Then you have people looking at you like you're insane and you just flip out on them in Latin. ;p
Right?! They may call the loony bin at that point to come pick me up xD
At least you'll be cultured. ;P
It's okay, I suppose I'd end up there too.
:D hang out with Nizabelle!
She speaks Arabic!
Really?? Ahhh that just makes her even more amazing!
;D Yeah! She's great!
I like your answer rlands :) and that's so cool I didn't know that about Niz!! I suppose I should've guessed that though considering her name haha
Spanish. Most of my "language barrier" calls for service involve Mexicans or South American Spanish speakers.
Me too I used to know Spanish but didn't practice it enough and now it's difficult communicating with my Spanish coworkers sometimes, I wish I could speak their language
I was going to say Spanish because the influx of population but Italian is a beautiful language the Irish Gaelic Is beautiful did nearly died as it was outlawed by death from any for a long time.
I thought of that too I work with alot of Mexicans but I've already learned it once before (just didn't care or practice it enough at the time so I can't recall it that well) so I could reteach myself that one, I agree I think Italian is gorgeous :))
What's your first language?
I want to learn this one too :) I have an old deaf couple that comes in where I work and they are so sweet and so I taught myself how to say "Good day how are you" and "Have a good night" it made them so happy the first time I signed it to them :)
I like your answer a lot :)
Pika pika!! :3
Yeah that is my immediate second choice :) though Latin and Italian are very similar
Call me weird guys but Latin. I love Latin. And I want to learn it.
I swear, you copy me. I was just talking to rlands the other day saying how I want to learn Latin. :)
He was. MrL tells no lies.
:D 'tis true. Just call me Lincoln. :P
No way L! That's crazy talk :b
Well, I have my crazy moments, I suppose. O.O
Hehe meeeeybe ;b I totally didn't know you said that! I think Latin is such a beautiful language ❤ I don't care that its dead. Plus it goes well with me becoming a biologist and all :)
It was in a Random discussion between her and I, which was totally unrelated to the poll under which we commented. Ah well... I do that all the time. :P
But it really is such a beautiful language. I would learn it just to say I knew it, haha. :D
