Got help for depression & anxiety. Haven't had a panic attack in 7 years.
I transferred to Auburn University from LSU towards the end of my sophomore year. Ended up with a 3.96 GPA and a chair at a top 30 law school. :)
After two bad marriages and two bad relationships I met my third husband. He isn't perfect (who is?) but he was certainly worth waiting for. I'm glad I didn't give up on love.
I was worshiping at a church every Sunday till one day I realized god doesn't exist. It changed my life. I no longer live in foolish ignorance and tell myself silly lies just to handle life's problems. I am truly not blessed.
Good For you & no lightening bolts!?! Some podcasts & org's you might want to check out. Free Thinkers Soc., FFRF:Freedom From Religion Foundation, Point of Inquiry, The Imaginary Friends Show & American Atheist to name a few. Good Luck & Congrat!s!
BTW, Absolutely a Great Avatar Pic!! Perfect!!
I was really depressed a couple years ago and my youth group went to a net retreat and they did a skit-thing to a Nickleback song. I broke down crying and made a really personal promise to God that ended up saving my life.
I enlisted in the military :)
Awesome! What did you end up doing in the AF?
I was a transport specialist :) air transportation was my primary training, but when the invasion came our career field did a lot of back-fill for the Army's eighty-eight mike mission and we ended up driving convoys for force sustainment operations
Go Air Force. My wife was in longer than I was, 10+yrs 'til 1yr remote to Thule, Greenland! We worked for AFRTS. Her TV, me Radio AFN EUR. We both think AF is #1. I was Army then AF. I say min. 2-4yrs for All B-4 or after college & Free Education!
When I was a teenager I started heading down the wrong path. Drugs, doing bad in school, getting into trouble. Then it suddenly turned around, I got closer to god, started making good grades, started martial arts, and found my future fiancé
I've been a Catholic all my life, but being confirmed really "ignited the fire" in me. Good friends with the deacons and priests at my parish and my grade school. <3 The chaplain at my current school (I'm in high school now)isn't around much.
I unexpectedly got pregnant and it made me realize that the way I was living wasn't working any longer so I gave my life to Christ. It's an amazing feeling when you give your life over to God. No one can take that away from you
So true dear sister so true.
...how do you do this?
Do what exactly? Give your life to Christ?
I gave my life to Christ. It was a change that will be of eternal significance. I don't regret one minute of living for Christ.
A close friend said "We both want the same things in life" and the pure truth of the statement hit me like a ton of bricks.
You mean like when I won the Powerball jackpot? Then no.
When I became a Christian it totally turned my life around.
What age did you become christian?
Around 20 or 21.
What made you turn to god? Any big event or anything like that?
You gained another follower TopsQueen. I'm glad you made the right choice.
Marriage, baby, and getting fired twice.
I sought out and received treatment for depression and anxiety. Before that my life was unstable and at some times hell. I waited way too long due to stigma and lack of treatment options. I work now to change those things for others
I had a dream one night that changed my life and a few other things
Is it too personal to share. I understand if it is.
Well I'll share it I guess, I wasn't. One night I had a dream that Jesus was on the cross dead and he was really far away and I kept walking closer and closer and when I came maybe 20 feet away and raised his head and looked me in the eyes and...
The feeling I got when I locked eyes with him was so intense I woke up instantly breathing really hard and sweating and couldn't sleep for the rest of the night and it was like only midnight when I woke up
You seem to have a close connection with God
I'd like to think I do. That dream is honestly where it all started for me though.
Christ drew me in and turned me around so quick, you could've sworn I was dizzy.
That's awesome man
It obviously wasn't as simple as that, but you kinda get the picture.
How did everything come together for you?
It started when I was in 4th grade. Stagnant until 8th grade where there was a big spike then back down. Then after 9th grade a bigger spike and its stayed that way ever since and has even grown.
Wow that happened to you through your early years as well? It keep on spiking and going back down? My faith was like that but it has gotten a lot more intense in the past year or so
Yeah. It was amazing and genuine. The spikes were because I didn't really have any support.
Yeah I'm the only person in my family who goes to church at all and everything so I know exactly what you mean. I have great faith now, but god still feels really far away, but close at the same time. Do you feel that as well?
Yeah, at times. That reminded me of this song, though. youtu.be/0rerU_NYwD8
