Is bashing some one based upon religious views, the same as bashing someone based upon race, culture, or sexual preference?

Bashing is bashing. Everybody should be respected - and respectful. Also I would not say I'm religious, but I am spiritual. I don't practice a religion.

Everyone has religion. Codifying it is helpful for emotional stability, especially for people too stupid to provide their own emotional stability. Personally, I love my religion!

Not everyone has religion, in the sense of the word.

I disagree. It might be an issue of definitions, though.

I'd be interested to know your definition?

Religion is the habits people form in response to the way they fulfill their needs. Religion establishes a "base line" - a deviation from which would cause an emotion.

This statement does not take environment into consideration.
There is a reason certain areas are Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, breaking it down even more locally you areas that have high concentration of baptists, Lutherans and Mormons.

Sure people can change their environment, but it does not mean it does not count for something.

And there are areas full of high concentrations of blacks, whites, Asians, and gays and straights and bis.

It means nothing. People can change what they think, but not who they are. A person may be raised straight, but know inside they are not,

A child could be raised white, but dark skin would tell other wise.

Same as you may be raised Muslim in faith, but know you'd rather choose for yourself.

Point taken, I believe I choose my own destiny but not my sex or color.
So what exactly is the difference of slurring someone for who they are, rather than what they think.

I wrote a second comment about it, that I don't think it's right to bash someone for it, but it is different.
