When puled over by a cop, do you believe it's best to call him "sir" and show submission, or do you believe that will just paint you as an easy target?
I have several police friends - I'm telling you - be polite - they are either good guys - and might let you off with a warning if you are - or they're jerks and they will make it worse for you if you're rude
Okay - I don't have police friends - I don't like police - my husband has police friends
I would do it to be polite, regardless.
I'm nice if they are nice.
I'm military, I call everyone sir or ma'am. Can't help it...
Sure ya can. I don't do it.
"This interaction is being recorded. I'm currently in possession of a pistol. I don't answer questions. Am I free to go? Am I being detained?" Lather, rinse, repeat.
You forgot "I do not consent to any searches."
That comes later if necessary
I'm not going to be able to change the broken system through our one conversation, so honestly my main concern is just driving away with the least amount of money stolen as possible.
It's best to show them respect. They're humans who put their lives on the line for other humans. They don't make the laws, they enforce them.
Thank you! They are just people. Some good some bad. But it's still a dangerous and noble profession. Most cops I've known have been good cops. Change the system and the laws they enforce. Don't blame them. (Cases of abuse are a separate issue)
Exactly. I 100% agree.
They lobby for drug criminalization and they put peaceful people in prison. The SS were just people too.
That's their job. They enforce the laws which are in place.
They follow the laws. Change the laws and we fix the problem.
They don't just enforce, they try to influence the laws.
