Are there any poll subjects you would like to never see (again)? If you have posted any of these, please don't take it personal. Some of us have spent a lot of time on SoH and seen some polls too many times.
Pollsters who "just want to know more about who follows them" asking demographic questions. Especially when its six in a row - not interested i answering, and less in seeing demographics of a sub set of SOH followers.
Yes one user even said he would ask it once a month. He didn't explain why.
My favorite polls deal with morality, politics, government, and political strategy and elections. My least favorite polls are English polls about books and stuff.
Hold off on the ghost/supernatural polls for a month or so. I had 3 within less than a week. Definitely bring 'em back for Halloween though!!
I got tired of the zombie polls a while ago.
Too many "is xxxx guilty?" Polls. Xxx is innocent until proven guilty!
No more do you like 2.0 polls. I also don't like Polls in which both answers are yes or no.
No one "wins"
I don't really care for polls about Obama. Talking about his politics or just politics in general is fine for me, but the same repeated questions of "Do you like Obama? Do you think Obama is Muslim?" etc. are a tad obnoxious to me.
So, do you like Obama?
I smell a democrat
I smell a libertarian...rebelfury76
How'd ya work that out champ? ;)
I'm not a democrat and I do not like Obama. I hate these polls too.
I don't mind repeat questions. I have tracked it, and the people I follow haven't ask the same thing twice, unless it was a follow up. The silly questions or questions that I can't answer, I just pass. But, I do understand.
No, because opinions evolve and change. It's always interesting to see survey results to common questions we have!
Agree opinions change and those polls are allowed. There are just some subjects that people feel we get nowhere discussing. Other subjects are just not important enough for a poll.
Yes how could we make 200 comments and forget zombies, but don't tell drama.
How is one to know, especially not a SoH veteran, that a question hasn't been asked previously. For that reason, I have a very high tolerance for repeat questions, and "dumb" ones too
I know and I give people a long line especially if they are new. This poll was not to pick on anyone.
Don't know if this has been said but the "what came first chicken or egg" I will literally stop following someone if they ask that question
I have not seen it mentioned here or the poll but it's a good one.
It shows no creativity or originality. That and it's a dumb question. The chicken obviously came first. ; )
Good one for the list, that is, not a good poll question.
What!!! Eggs existed long before chicken.
Tomm it is a fact that the chicken came first and that is all I will say about it. I was there and I saw it. DONE!!!!
See the intense debate it brings up? :D
I was just joking. I really don't have an opinion.
Actually the egg came first. Scientist proved it, but its not really well known.
They are liars. I saw the first chicken and it tasted good
There wasn't a chicken until a mutation occurred in either sperm or ovum (uniting to form a fertilized egg) of some just-prior-to-chicken predecessor, resulting a mutated egg, growing into a creature different...
enough to be a new species - a chicken. The egg came first.
Yeah scientists are liars -__- so is everything they have discovered and invented. That's what science is all about. Lying. Thank you Susan. Nice explanation :)
But it happened over the course of multiple generations instead of just one and a new species appeared.
Of course. And it's not as if there were suddenly chickens everywhere. But it had to start with an egg with one or more mutations.
Just like gravity, evolution, and modern medicine. -__-
I was never part of that original debate. Is the argument for the chicken something about God created the chicken and the chicken created the egg? I'm just curious.
Gravity and medicine are real
Well, we don't need to reproduce the discussion here, especially since this was drama's "I don't want to see it again" question. I didn't realize that evolution was the issue, or I would never have gone into science mode. Sorry.
If you read my comments most of them are just silly. I didn't think that anyone would take it seriously. I mean I said I was there when the chicken was created.
I did think you were just being silly, drama, until your comment about gravity & modern medicine being real. The implication being that evolution isn't. I really don't want to upset anyone in this poll. I'm leaving for now, anyway.
The real question is which came first, the fried chicken or the scrambled egg?
Loving this chicken-egg drama! Debate is FUN, let's face it!
I'm going with susanr on the whole chicken and egg question.
There were eggs long before the were chickens. There's my 2 pennies.
I don't care.
Based on your user profile you have only been here a week. Some subjects just keep coming back and some users are just so tired of them.
The ones that bother me are those that are asked just to force you to agree with someone. "Shouldn't welfare be eliminated?" With answer choices of "of course" and "absolutely" is not a legitimate poll question.
Neither are answers to questions like that which read something like "Of course" and "I'm a moron."
How about: "Do you feel safer and grateful when given a ticket by a cop". One option was "thank you sir". I voted that just for fun. Several users were quite upset :-D
Ha! Don't think I saw that one.
Just for your info, this was from RebelFury and he is following me.
On the other hand... one of the things Tony said he had hoped for was for people to cultivate little same-interest communities. I could see a lot of the sports questions, & following-a-high-profile-trial questions & such finding little (or big)...
..communities. But we haven't broken off into communities; a lot of us are following... well, a lot of us. Maybe if at some point we could apply the *categories* to our own polls, we could follow people's polls selectively.
Yes I want that too, please please. I've been trying to find people who are interested in economy and politics. There are few who asks those questions and they have too few followers.
Exactly, Tom. I wonder if the Civil War buff guy has been successful - I see references to his polls occasionally; don't know how many followers he has.
He's one of few who's really done it in my opinion. Just checked he has 150 followers now, but no idea how successful he is.
@Tomm: I am following Vincere just because he has some financial type questions that are over my head. I'm trying to learn something from him, lol.
I follow him too and you for the politics :-)
No more food polls, please! Sometimes I don't even like either choice given, so I don't bother with it. Also sports questions about specific players or teams is another one I'll skip over.
Vanilla or chocolate ice cream? :-)
Cheetos or Cheez-Its?
Yes that too
Yes. Also ones like "curtains or blinds?" or "Do you have a lamp next to your bed?" There is really no point or basis to these questions.
I agree there are too many about food where there's really no point. CarrieMarie just posted taco: soft or hard? I had one today asking if you like sushi.
Sometimes even the most inane-seeming questions (on the order of "curtains or blinds") ends up with a really good discussion about... something... You never know. If we had the option to dismiss, skip, remove, or whatever, polls we weren't...
...interested in, I think it might alleviate a whole lot of these issues.
On the other hand... law if unintended consequences... I wonder what happened if we'd all suddenly dismiss a lot of polls. Hm.
Or we could just... follow fewer.
I haven't seen this in a while, but right after 2.0.. Pink Floyd was in like a thousand battles vs other bands in polls. I started voting against them out of frustration. Again, like I said, its been a while..
I remember them too. Music is not my interest either. I had to unfollow some people.
I hate polls about which polls we don't like. :)
Teasing! Your polls are great Tom!
Feel free to dislike my poll. I had actually expected some people to yell at me.
And btw I'm so tired of all those teachers. Why do they all have to be on SoH? Just kidding, I like your polls too :-)
Now, you are hitting below the belt!!! :D
Sorry. I like your polls and your input. I had to give you back and it was the only thing I could come up with.
Haha!, I know. Well played! :)
Some of these have been bugging me for a while & I'm happy to have a place to vent them (& you can probably tell I've been keeping an actual *list*), but in truth I wouldn't want to make anybody feel bad for posting one of them, previously...
...or in the future. For one thing, of course we don't all have the same set of people we follow so we may not have seen them umpty times; for another, we don't all have the same followers, so it's OK to ask them again.
Out of all of that, I'm totally unsurprised that you were keeping track or compiling a list.
I mean, you are SusanR after all. It's just so... You!. :D
It is sort of obsessive, isn't it.
Also just a tad mean-spirited. But writing them down sort of kept me from exploding directly at people.
Not sure indirectly, like this, is much of an improvement.
I understand you and with the time you obviously have spent on SoH to get to 20k comments I can understand you've seen it all and some of it too much.
I couldn't agree more. There is one user who's name I won't mention, but his polls are so frequently overly biased and frustrating that I have to basically handcuff myself to prevent an angry comment.
MrL I think I can guess who :-)
I take it as fun to vote against his opinion.
It frustrates me to all hell... I do the same thing as you do, though.
I can't imagine who you're talking about, MrL.
I find he makes me stop & think about things in ways that other people don't, often enough that I'll keep coming back. Not that I agree a lot, but it's good to question... well, everything.
I do question everything, but I certainly don't need personal opinion in every question.
I tend to take those questions like Susan as well. Most times it's provocative enough to make me question my own stance. I may still agree with myself in the end, but at least I can say I thought about both sides :)
I honestly don't know who the biased pollster is, I've seen a couple, but I challenge all to speak out with the phrase "biased question" and explain why. If it is me, not sure if I come across biased, but I would sure like to know if it seems so
Clarity, that's respectable. :)
Bob, it's not you! You polls are very thought provoking and unbiased.
Definitely not you, Bob.
I guess questions in general about SoH too. I know I've done it before, but it just seems like putting the word you're trying to define into it's own definition...
I'm guilty here now.
I agree when it comes to polls about how many polls people should ask.
Like pollcrastinating, pollcrasturbating, SoHing, pollster, polltastic, etc.? ;P
Exactly, MrL :)
And Tom yeah I've been guilty with this too. But it's those excessive ones that really get me.
I feel like I'm ranting too much about my poll annoyances haha I feel mean
Don't worry... Susan has a list. ;)
MrL never heard any of those words.
I make them up all the time, haha. I just take words and make them Show of Hands related. :P
But it does bring debate
True bob. There are some really good ones. As a general category though, I believe they're unnecessary. But I think everyone's done them. Like I said, I definitely have.
MrL probably likes pollcrasturbating????
God dammit! I forgot that emojis don't work.
Y'all must be following a lot of people I'm not. I can't think of any question I'm tired of hearing except maybe abortion because there are only so many variations and Tony does it so often. My biggest poll pet peeve is heteronormative questions.
And what is so wrong about heteronormativity?
WOW! You're only following 24 people! Goodness, haha. :)
I can certainly seem why that would be frustrating for you.
see* not seem...
SF, Is that a serious question or just trying to needle me?
Mr. L - *only* 24? That seems like a lot to me. Also, how do you see that?
:) I follow around 750 or so...
In order to see that, just go to your profile and click on the "published questions" button.
I think anybody's philosophy about how many people to follow is just FINE - whatever suits YOU. I think following fewer people, more closely, is probably wiser than trying to follow hundreds, but some people follow hundreds & love it.
I certainly agree! :)
It's all based on individual preference.
Or gafiate, she's now following 4717
Oh jeez. 750 would drive me crazy. Do you tend to comment on every one? More power to you. And thanks for the info.
I would say that I comment on about 60-70% of them!
As to the info - any time!
I have the feeling there's so much happening around here I have no clue about. Kind of like how high school was for me haha.
Awe, well there are some really great users you may be missing out on. (:
You wouldn't want SoH to become a burden, though! :)
There are so many polls. I just refreshed and there are 7 new polls after this one.
Okay fine Mr L I will follow you, gosh! Haha
YES! ;D Thanks, Kermie, I appreciate it. Don't worry, I only ask a few polls per week. :)
Hehe glad I could make your evening ;)
Kermie, that's a serious question. I hear that word all the time and have been called it numerous times. I don't have a problem with homonormativity.
Heteronormativity is the supporting of the world view that promotes heterosexual relationships as being the proper and normal relationship. Essentially, an anti-gay stance or wording.
Imagine if every question were written with the assumption that everyone answering were a man, or white, or had a PhD. Can't you imagine how some people would feel left out?
Regardless, I try to put myself in the shoes of a person who fits the question. Either that, or I relate it to someone the question pertains to. I understand what you're saying, though. It's a bit different from your perspective on this matter.
I definitely understand that, but it's always used in a negative way. Why?
I guess I don't understand your question. To me it's always a negative thing to exclude others through enculturated language and actions.
I understand that gay people have to deal with tons of unreasonable and unnecessary discrimination. But I don't think that looking down on heteronormativity is going to solve that problem since we live in a fairly heteronormative world.
The way to solve the problem is to raise awareness. Is that negative?
It depends on how people raise awareness.
No, I am NOT following the <insert name nobody will care about in six months> trial, watching the <insert sport no one cares about here> game, or interested in hearing about how <insert any religion but usually Christianity> is "under attack".
First two completely agree. The third I've not seen that often yet.
I don't like Quiz questions. You know the the asker already knows the answer. Why. To see of we're smart or can click bing first before we answer. That's not an opinion poll.
Think hard about this and answer *honestly*: __________
As if those of us who are in the habit of lying will say "Oh, OK" and tell the truth for once. (Who lies, anyway?)
I haven't seen a poll like that, but I think it would prompt me to answer dishonestly just out of spite ;)
I've seen those a few times and it made me think the same as Susan.
Cremated or buried?
Is homosexuality a choice?
Depends on who you ask...some people say they're born that way, others say they chose to be that way, and others say its a mental disorder.
Would you kill x people to save y people?
I sure know I wouldn't kill xx people to save xy people. Way to lower my odds...
Doopy... always thinking ahead & strategizing for the future. Smart man.
Colgate or Crest?
(I mean really, what do the poll results resolve? Anything?)
THIS IS A SERIOUS DILEMMA WHICH PLAGUES OUR NATION!
Oh wait, no it doesn't matter at all. :)
Snowden: patriot or traitor?
Hero or villain?
Is George Zimmerman guilty?
I have an irrational fascination with the trial. I've tried not to post about it too much.
I don't mind creative questions about the trial, actually (although I'm not following it); I just don't like being asked repeatedly if I think he's guilty.
I've even started watching Nancy Grace, which kills me. It's sad.
I see what you're saying--and I suppose anyone asking it already has a very fierce opinion about his guilt.
Oh, dear, kermie, you DO have a problem. Maybe we should have an intervention.
To be fair, I only had two channels in English for the past week, but yes, perhaps an intervention is needed ;)
I have a feeling if I dropped in to talk to you about it, we'd end up sitting together & watching it. Then we'd both need an intervention.
Wait... You were in a beautiful foreign country and you spent your time watching Nancy Grace talk about the George Zimmerman trial???
Haha! I told you! Bad.
Any polls asking me if one kind of cookies is better than another.
Clearly, Dark Side Cookies always win.
Happy birthday or other personal greetings. You don't need to announce to the SoH community that you know them that well, send them an email.
Those don't bother me at all. It's usually someone many of us know & love, and I don't mind having a happy online birthday party, or celebrating an milestone anniversary, with them. Folks can always feel free to not participate.
And I'd say that even if I *hadn't* done it myself just last night (for the first & maybe only time).
Even though the birthday boy didn't show up. Hmph.
I know you did and it made me add it to the list, but please don't take it personal as the poll said. It was the second this week, I don't need that. TopsQueen has a good poll for that stuff.
AHHHH it was supposed to say HONORED, I feel honored to have been given...
Oops, wrong reply spot, sorry
I loved it but then I'm biased. I noticed the other birthdays were no show too.
Tops, I don't like them as polls, I don't see the need for it and it could get out of control quickly. A personal greeting in the comments is completely different in my opinion.
I don't want to hear anybody ever ask if Obama is a Muslim EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The answer is no. He's clearly apostate.
I'm just sick of hearing about Obama, haha.
Have you ever gone back to the Obama approval poll. There will be comments weeks later. June has 810 comments now, but they will keep coming. There will be many from the 3rd and forward.
That's my all-time least favorite question, I believe. WTFC.
Niz, did you find my reply to you about that? It was my 20,000th comment.
Of course I did, and I responded to it also, and I feel so bored to have been given your 20,000th comment so thank you!
And yes, I don't want to hear any of it anymore. He is that President and if you Ike him or not we are stuck with m so get over it. And to me, there really isn't anything he can do tha will ever make him nearly as horrible as W. was. W'sMD anyone?
Bored LOL I love autocorrect. Some times I think there's a troll.
Let's not get into politics, Niza. (;
We found WMDs in Iraq.
Haha! Well, I'm sure a lot of my comments are pretty boring too, so that's OK.
But really, I had passed by a number of places where I could have written replies, looking for one good comment that mattered to me - you had a whole string of them.
Tom - My theory is that both autocorrect & Siri have achieved consciousness, and are totally screwing with our heads. Because they can, and because they have nothing better to do.
Actually, it's the NSA... It HAS to be. Everything is the NSA, right? NSA, NSA, NSA. Sorry, I'm so sick of those polls, too.
So, uh...is Obama a Muslim? ;)
Polls about a function not working on SoH. Send an email to Tony, he reads them email@example.com
I sort of don't mind those, because some of us (lots of us, actually) can help some of those folks, sparing Tony some email replies, so he can actually work on the issues instead of having to read & reply to yet another email about them.
Which of these two teams you've never heard of will win the sporting event you never watch?
I thought I was the only one :-)
I'm not into sports except I may watch NFL. I have ignored the sports category, but I cannot ignore sports categories from other users.
And yet... there are people I simply adore on SOH for a number of reasons, who are into sports... or something else that I'm not. I don't want to stiffle what they post...
If we just had that "remove from poll list" button...
I have asked for that ignore polls option too, but Tony replied it was too complex. Recently he replied to another user in a way that made me hope there's a chance.
Yeah, I know he hasn't sounded at all positive about that. I haven't seen his comment that you mentioned, though.
What he HAS been more positive about is the ability to mark "favorite" polls, so you can come back to them easily. That sounds good.
Yes that may be what I'm thinking off. To me that would pretty much have the same effect. Maybe that could even be used to suggest polls you may be interested in.
Polls about SoH users. Any way you ask it's in my opinion going to make some people favorites. It's like asking who's your favorite child. I know they were made with the best intentions, but it doesn't come out that way. At least not what I've seen.
Who are your top ten... Oh...
Oops...I am not THAT emphatic about it. :)
Paul McCarthy vs John Lennon
Please, never again!
McCarthy? As opposed to McCartney?
What about Jessie McCartney vs John Lennon?
I don't mind any polls being posted again and again. If you've ever seen the FISH program video one guys points out that the 50th guy who asks a repetitive question wasn't there all the other times the question was asked. We don't all follow
The same people or maybe someone thinks they have a new take on something
Not seen that video but I think I know what you mean. Some questions can be good multiple times. I will discuss healthcare over and over.
One of the first polls I posted was about eliminating the penny. I was told it had been discussed several times. It can happen to everyone. That's not the concern I have.
I agree. There are polls which are repetitive, but they're still good. Your polls are great. :D
Thanks, I've posted so few. Who can even remember one :-)
My point with this comment was that it's not wrong just because it's been posted before as Shelly also says above.
I don't mind repeat polls since I know people don't realize they've already been asked. I just won't partake in them anymore. Especially the controversial ones like abortion. It's tiring to debate the same thing over and over with no end in sight.
Restroom routines. How you use or do not use the toilet. It's just TMI for me
I HATE when people casually talk about their relieving of themselves. It's trashy and distasteful, in my opinion.
Yeah, one day I was just taking a sh*t and it felt awesome!
Polls about abortion.
We get it...
Sometimes the abortion questions just end up getting repetitive. You run into the exact same arguments and have to retype your lengthy responses a million times...
We are all set on our opinions and arguments. Another poll probably doesn't change anything.
True. There's little benefit to debating it at this point.
I've been having the exactly the same discussions online about certain subjects, abortion being one of them although I usually stay out of it, for TWENTY YEARS. Same arguments come up on both sides. Everyone says the same thing. We should just have..
..numbers that point to the same database of arguments, & trade numbers. Or hey, better yet, just not do it at all, until something really new comes up.
Anything requiring you to look up gross pictures.
Other than that, I really don't mind the repeats. I feel the most asked one is cat vs dog..
What kind of poll requires you to look up gross pictures?
Some user posted about which was worse, a blue waffle or a spotted Richard. Having heard of neither I looked them up. They both come with very unsavory pictures. They also posted a couple of slang words that seems innocent, but were pretty not ok.
I just prefer a warning of some sort about the adult nature.
Reading the comments, I realized that it also bothers me when people feel like they need to remind you what to consider. Idk.
I have some issues with the "adult" stuff too, mainly because there are so many very young people around.
The gross pictures didn't bother *me* much, but I'm weird. I understand. Warning would have been nice.
However, spotted, uh, "Richard" is only a British pudding, as far as I'm aware.
I've had it, in England. By it's real, or apparently *former,* name. Just to say I had.
Oh well if it makes you feel a blue waffle is not real, it's just photoshopped.
Aw thanks that does make me feel better.
