Due to the one-year delay in the 2014 employer health insurance mandate, consumers will now just self-report their eligibility for up to $5k a year in Federal aid to buy personal insurance. Will people be honest, or game the system?
I have no faith in humanity. I used to, but I learned because I got hurt. I try to see the best in people but in this case, they just won't be honest
Government is NOT the solution, Government IS the problem!
It's naive to believe that people won't cheat the system.
Obviously some people will game the system, but I believe most will be honest. I know I would be honest, my family would be honest, and I'm sure most of all your families would be honest as well.
We tried to warn you America! What a cluster fuck!
Well those 91% who would lie those auditors will be a bitch when they catch u
The question doesn't ask what you would do, it asks what people will do.
Under the surface, and it's not just an American anomaly, lies in wait people who either grew up in or have figured out they can game the system. Our problem here in my humble opinion is we have too many programs and oversight that doesn't work.
If they're smart enough to play the system...
Man, oh man are you democrats willfully blind! Wow.
There will be people who do both. That seems pretty clear to me.
What happens in a year when $10bil in business fines is still politically unpalatable? Are they going to keep pushing back full implementation and just keep printing money to pay for "free" health care?
That's a really stupid question.
How much of a mess does Obamacare have to be before these lame duck politicians do something to repeal this Obamanation?
Can you believe congress is trying to have their aides exempt because it's too costly?
Is this a farce or what?
Hahahaha this system is gonna crash and burn, I can't wait.
Really? You had to ask.
If the system can be gamed, it will be gamed.
Can you say disaster?
I like to believe there are a lot more good/honest people than bad people.
I think more and more people are oil lowing the example set by congress. Money for nothing, chicks for free.
Isn't that the same as a voucher system? Except, it's adjusted for self-described need. It's the nastiest amalgamation of the left and right. We have $3,057 billion for a war of civilian casualties, but diddly to healthcare. I'm not so proud, USA. I pay taxes for Americans; that's what I'm proud of.
Follow me for AWESOME POLITICAL QUESTIONS
I WILL have faith in humanity, I will have faith in humanity, I will have faith in humanity
Lol, it is pretty depressing in here. Although, it's not unrealistic unfortunately.
You are NOT entitled to what I earn, get a job welfare people!
The precedent has already been set. It will only get worse. You can't un-convince people that they don't deserve what isn't theirs to begin with. This is America, where you deserve to be paid just for breathing.
The real reason for the delay is the jobs report. People dunked from full- to part-time in the service sector (where most jobs are being created). They also lean Democrat. Add it up: angry poorer voters in 2014, or move it after the mid-terms.
As of right now only 47% of adults have full time jobs.
People can't pay a mortgage working part time. This house of cards that the progressives have built, will come crashing down, and every aspect of this economy will be injured. Hopefully this ends progressive rule. The signs are already starting to show.
Obama = Bush
Except Obama doubled down a d amplified every single bad idea Bush had.
Why? Bush was behind the wheel, but the liberal congress was in charge of where it went and how fast it got there.
I'm so disappointed Obama went with this GOP bullsht instead of supporting a single payer system. This is what happens when you use republican ideals, the insurance companies writes the law.
I agree. We certainly don't want to allow individuals to have freedom of choice in healthcare. We know that when government manages big programs that they are less costly & more efficient.
@roy, exactly my thoughts. Well said. What cool-aid is that guy drinking?
You think government manages things better than the private sector? Have you never been to a DMV?
Or a Post Office?
Or the VA?
Single payer system is the very thing I'm fighting against.
Doctors to survive will only take cash. Have Obamacare? You will have to go to large regional medical centers and wait while you have your healthcare regulated by committee. This is the grim future of healthcare soon to come to a center near you. Enjoy.
welfare, Social Security, ACLU, NAACP, unions and others were started with good intentions, but then people started to abuse them. Now the people who use these programs for genuine reasons can't because of these cheats. Or, they get lumped in with the abusers, corrupt unions officials.
this won't be any different. The frauds, cheaters, and abusers will come out in droves. Lok at our government. They don't have to pay into it at all. That's fraud ain't it?
ACA is a law of thousands of pages which no one read before passage. Unelected bureaucrats will write tens of thousands of regulations per section of this law. An unelected, unaccountable board will make health decisions for the nation.
It's tentacles will touch all aspects of our lives. Business reporting will be massive & costly. Don't delay it, shoot it.
Wow, when you think Obamacare can't get any dumber, it does.
Every welfare program is already abused. Why would this be any different?
Exactly. Handouts don't work. Teaching people to work for themselves. To save for their own retirement, to not have children until they can afford them is what we need. We don't believe in personal accountability anymore.
Screw the government.
It certainly has done it to us in the last three years.
So not only are they putting it off so people don't see the effects until after elections, they are using more taxpayer money to buy voters. If it is as great as Obama says it is let them implement it before the election it should gain them voters.
As anything like this people will abuse.
Another power the president doesn't have... putting off implementing the law of the land for political reasons.
Not to mention they've been lying to congress about how the program was right on track...
It would be interesting if someone sued the government for the delay.
They delayed it to help the companies. It's not their fault, of course.
Government has plenty of money to take care of the truly needy but because of all the waste fraud and abuse by the time the money reaches the needy there is not much left.
Irrelevant. There is nothing in the constitution that permits the federal govt to give away taxpayer money.
I agree but the left always says they are taking our money to feed the poor and my point is that most of the money they take does not go to"feed the poor". It typically goes to line their own pockets or buy votes.
"When you subsidize poverty and failure, you get more of both." – James Dale Davidson
At least some of the democrats appear to believe in their own nonsense. Although their politicians don't.
King Obama only put it off a year so his Dems wouldn't get hurt in next year's election
I'm really not sure that is gonna help much. Businesses still laying ppl off &/or cutting hours. Too many are starting to see how this Admin "manages/ignores" anything inconvenient rather than fixing it. Healthcare already being neg affected...
You know things are bad when you can’t even successfully implement your own bad ideas-Bobby Jindal
This nations welfare system, while well intentioned, breeds liars and laziness. Why would this be any different?
Agreed the welfare system is in place for a reason but there is a leach problem. These people are nothing short of criminals and should be treated as such.
Of course ppl will lie, they will do whatever it takes to make a few thousand dollars extra. The government takes and takes no matter how much u make. Ppl are tired of all the taxation. Taxes were never meant to be used in the way they are today.
Would you say that we are facing taxation without representation?
'The system' is fair game, as its very existence is thanks to games being played with the definition of "tax".
As the saying goes, 2 can play that game.
Ha ha! Honest . . . hehe . . . people! HA HA HA HA! That was a joke, right?
probably more like wishful thinking!
So much for Integrity.
These results are embarrassing.
Who are you embarrassed because of? The people who cheat the system for free stuff or those of us on SOH who voted saying people would cheat the system?
I'm just a realist.
In general, people tend to suck when it comes to a chance at gaming any system.
Thank you Rand. My 20 years was comparatively easy compared to what our GI's are going through these days. Not only do they have multiple deployments, as my daughter had, they have to put up with political correctness and a clueless CIC.
As a military retiree I have no idea ow OblowmeCare will affect me. I've heard he wants to double TriCare premiums for the "free medical for life" I was promised every time they wanted me to reenlist. I pay $100/mo for the "free" dental/vision.
Thx for your service
Why is your free medical for life not gaming the system. Everyone working in private sector doesn't get free med for life. VA for military injuries fair just free medical is another game of the system
Tricare for life is a benefit of the job. For putting in 20years of risking your life for little pay compared to the same jobs in civilian life.
Thanks again Rand. Also for spending years away from my wife and three daughters while serving on short tours overseas. You can debate whether or not I earned it. You cannot debate what was promised and then taken away.
And what of others you risk it all without your government benefit, police, firefighters even inner city teachers
The difference HUD is that military were promised this and they weren't. The ppl you listed work for state, county and city departments, not the federal government. We thank them for what they do but it is still different. I'm not saying that one...
...deserves it more than the other just that they're recruited differently. If you feel they should receive the same benefits then lobby for that but don't dare think military doesn't deserve to have promises kept.
So you are questioning new government health plan because the government changed the rules on your military health care. By the way same as they did to my father and brother
I can't speak for Danny, but I can tell you that I believe the Affordable Care Act to be the most damaging thing ever done to the quality of life in our country. It may take a decade before its that apparent but it will come. My hope is that...
...it will be repealed by 2016 or 17. I don't think ppl really know how bad our future looks even w/o the added cost of this piece of legislation. Our children and their children should be ashamed of how we've treated them.
We have become socialist. You figure out the answer...it's not that hard.
The scam artists have had 3 years to figure out how they will maximize phony claims, how to play the system like SNAP cards, MEDICAID it will be like shooting fish in a barrel for them.
It's stunning to me how low an impression we have of our fellow human beings. When did this happen and why are we all so bitter about it?
Because there's so much fraud. Try search for Medicaid and Medicare fraud or food stamp fraud. It's one long horror story.
But there's fraud everywhere Tom. Even your beloved banks and corporations commit fraud. But the occurrence is actually very low compared to all the good honest people who use government services.
I don't love banks or corporations, but when there's fraud the shareholders loose, that's not my problem if I'm not an owner. This fraud costs the tax payers including me. I'm tired of paying for the fraud.
In 2010 the administration estimated there was $125 billion in "improper payments" in federal payments to Medicare, unemployment insurance etc. This report says it's not bad.
Improper payments in Medicare are the fault of shady doctors, not recipients. And even so, that's a handful of people billing the system for large amounts of money, not millions of people defrauding small amounts. Most people do the right thing.
This case involved 14 doctors/nurses and 75 other individuals for 223m fraud. 400 FBI agents involved.
Most people are not criminals, but those who are, more than make it up.
And clearly the system in place to catch these frauds is working. There will always be some fraud but there are ways to catch it and stop it. Should we punish the millions of honest people who need help because of a handful of crooks?
No we should help them, but the system is out of control when a group of 89 people can steal 223 million before being stopped.
I also don't see why we should make more systems with the option to commit more fraud.
Also note how they needed 400 FBI agents to investigate this. They have dedicated fraud groups to do nothing else than investigate Medicare etc. fraud.
Duey what medical insurance will you have?
I provide a plan to our employees and my family through my business. Why do you ask?
I guarantee there will be fraud somewhere at some time.
I don't think people understand the question. This applies only to people who have full-time employment but no insurance. Why would someone who already has insurance lie about it to get included in the pool to spend more of their own money?
Anyone who is offered insurance but say no will not be eligible in the exchange. However, they cannot enforce it because companies will not report who's eligible in 2014.
Democrats don't want people to know how bad Obamacare really is until after the 2014 election, it's all a political game.
I'm guessing he will blame Bush.
When does the left *not* blame him?!
The same day you stop doing the exact same thing?
I blame Bush for Obama getting elected.
If you blame Bush for Obama getting elected, you might as well blame Romney for him getting reelected <g>
Niner - I do
EarlyBird exactly right - every action has an equal & opposite reaction, now what will be Obama's reaction
