Have you ever rented a property (not vacation) sight unseen?
I almost did with my apartment here I. Arizona. I decided to fly down at the last minute though.
I bought our house without my husband seeing it. Well I call the Realtor and told him we would take it. then his next day off we both when and looked at it and that afternoon signed the papers and I moved us the next weekend with movers. He left that
Morning from one home came back that night from work to the new one. He said it was the easiest move he's ever made
Yep! Moved from Denver to heart of DC. NOT the logical thing to do but turned out to be FANTASTIC.
Yes, my present apartment. My daughter & son-in-law visited the apartment complex but the apartment itself wasn't available for viewing. My daughter took a lot of photos of the grounds & the buildings, plus there were interior shots online...
..although not of my specific apartment. It's been almost 2 years, & I'm still very pleased with almost all aspects of it. I don't think I could have done any better in this town by visiting in person. There was some luck involved, though.
I got the go-ahead from my wife to buy the house we're in now without her having seen anything but a bunch of pictures I sent, but I'd seen it. I could have done it based on her judgement too, but I don't know about if neither of us had seen it.
Yea, I couldn't BUY a house unseen.
I feel better about this place in VI because we talked the owner into a 6 month lease, so worst case we can bail.
I'd totally do a six month lease based on seeing a dimensioned floor plan, map location, a bunch of pictures, and a description of the condition. Unless it's just in awful condition, you could do half a year almost anywhere. Google Earth it.
A few times while moving duty stations.
Yup. Some horrid experiences there.
Word. At least for the most part, you know what you're getting. Bases are getting far better at that.
This will be my second time, and I'm hoping it goes better than the first.
I'm not high maintenance by any stretch of the word but the one thing very important to me, is my home. I would need to see it.
What if this was the view?
Sold! When can I move in?
From the street down the driveway to the house
Is it a hut type of home where you can continue your green life?
Not a hut. A normal style concrete house.
But it collects its own rain water, and the property has mangoes and bananas and we plan on having a garden
I'm so envious! When do you leave the states?
Morning of August 5th....
I just thought of something! Internet access? Wifi?
We'll be signing the lease the next couple days and the car will be shipped the 22nd or 23rd.
The owner of the house (were technically renting the top half) is a Texan that owns a spa in Houston and travels to the island a couple times a year.
The car shipping company is taking care of the customs and car registration the week before we get there, so our jeep will have played and be able to get driven off as soon as we land.
LOL. Yes, there will be Internet. Mostly free hotspots and 3G, but I'll be around :)
I'm honestly enjoying this experience with you. Thanks for sharing -)
Thanks :) We're excited and nervous. Still a lot to do, still a lot to figure out, still a lot of uncertainty, but when we get overwhelmed, we just google pictures of the islands and relax a little.
I bought a house once that my wife hasn't seen until the day we closed v
I can't even comprehend her willingness to go along with that.
We were being relocated to Houston and she couldn't come for the house tours. She saw pictures of course, but didn't see it in person until right before we closed.
One of the nice things of today's technology, movie camera's, etc.
She has much trust in you. Glad it worked out.
This was pre-Skype, but I was able to email them to her.
