Does the NSA really only monitors our e-mails, phone calls etc. to primarily check for terrorist activity or is that just one of many reassons and they use terrorism to cover it up

For example could they be also looking for non-terrorist criminals like drug dealers and robbers but are doing so by looking at all communication?

It's possible. They're just looking for serious crime, I guess.

Why would they want to spend time on normal, law abiding citizens?

Bc they want total control of the people. Knowledge is power. They more they know the more they can do. They can use this data for analysis and understand our nature and then be better prepared to manipulate it.

They don't want total control of the population. Why would they? How could they? That's a huge scale operation to be pulling off.

Yes it is. Hidden agendas. Maybe not every single citizen but they already do it an extent through media censorship. Showing us what they want us to see instead of what's really happening. The more they know about us the better for them

But the media isn't government controlled. The media collectively may do that, but it doesn't have to do with the government...

I respectively disagree. Why would the media collectively censor what they deliver? It should have no bearing on them, but it does on our government. After reading about Afghanistan and the CIA and the Soviet Union back in the day and talking

With foreigners and people who served on the front lines, what we see us not reality. And only the govt wouldn't want us to really know. Media is just the messenger. Whether they give us good or bad it's not them who look bad

I can understand that. As you said, respectfully disagree :) I just think that the government is genuinely working in our best interest.

I used to think that. And part of me still does. But the more I learn the less I think that. I used to want to work for the FBI believe it or not. But then I learned about free enterprise and I shifted gears. I hope our govt can turn this country

Around bc I don't like where were heading. From immigration to foreign affairs. It seems very messy.

Have you ever considered a career in politics? The FBI is slightly different, but you'd get some leverage over whatever our country is headed towards if you did. You see freshman coming into congress all the time who got into politics for that reason

It's crossed my mind but I never gave it serious thought. I always wanted to be mayor so I could fix my town. I know it's hypocritical to complain and not do anything about it. I don't know if that's for me tho.

I totally get it. But it is a really good option. And most mayor jobs are part time anyway. It seems like you'd do really well as a mayor. From our conversation at least.
