IF you believe in evolution, do you believe the human race is still evolving?

I think we are, but sometimes I wonder if medical advances are hindering it. Nature selects for the most adapted traits and those traits are more likely to produce offspring. Now, those who would have died are now living and reproducing.

Yes, exactly! I personally think we have artificially slowed evolution to a possible stopping point.

A prime example would be this one African Tribe. The tallest male is the leader. He would marry the tallest female. They're like shortest at 6 1/2 feet.

Yes, exactly. In this isolated tribe they are self-selecting and evolving. Yet in the greater world, this isn't happening.

It is, sorta. But very slowly. People have preferences in "beauty" at least. So we have those who choose their likeness in a mate.

I do think we need a bit more natural selection.

Very true, but "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", yes? I've seen plenty of what I might consider unattractive people with their just as unattractive babies.

I don't mean to sound shallow in that comment, just pointing out that you don't have to be objectively or even subjectively beautiful to find a mate.

I agree completely. But as society and instincts show, people who are at least fit (even if their faces look like they got hit by a truck) are more "beautiful" by societies standards.

The reason I ask is if you consider evolution as what happens when an individual has a mutation or trait that increases it's chance for survival, then how can humanity evolve if we artificially increase everyone's ability to procreate?

Individuals do not evolve!!! POPULATIONS do!!

Logo, I understand, what I'm saying is populations evolve when the individuals within have differences that increase their chances for survival and procreation. Can you think of anything that could influence this in modern man?

Almost anyone can procreate. Doesn't matter what you look like, what disease you have, your physical short-comings... You are still likely to find a mate.
