Do you keep a lot of your receipts?
Yes, to deduct as a business expense.
They accumulate in my purse until I realize i should just throw them away
Only for work expenses...and, of course, the collection in the bottom of my purse.
Only for video games or electronics. Or gifts for people temporarily.
Unless I make a big purchase, I throw receipts out the min I get home.
Yep. I keep track of them sorted by business and personal.
More of on accident. I pulled 20 receipts out of my purse the other day.
For big things like TVs or household items...
Work stuff yeah
Every one of them for the past two and a half years entered into excel and categorized.
Wow that's impressive! For taxes?
That was the original intent, now it has turned into a budgeting mechanism. The categories of the receipts flow through to a monthly budget.
Cool! You're quite organized :)
I'm finding I have a passion for personal finance, managing expenses. I think I am going to try and create spreadsheets to behave like quick books software (just cheaper)
I use Quicken and track it all. Allowed me to pay off my 30 yr mortgage in 10.
If I like them, they stay...
Unfortunately, I usually end up making them once and moving on to others.
What? Your receipts?
Ah hell I read the question wrong. I throw all of my receipts away since I have copies sent to me virtually.
Haha ok! I was wondering... Like you vote some of your receipts off the island or something... What'd you think it said?
Lmfao yeah! If the receipt was over $300 it's voted off of the island for the pain it causes me.
No. :) I have the digital copies sent to my phone and my accountant.
Geez what do you spend $300 on? Haha I'm talking breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien...
More things than I should have. :P
Mainly when I was dating someone.
Now, I only spend that much for a show, the opera, the ballet, sporting events or a nice dinner. (:
Oh that makes sense. Didn't think about concerts and stuff like that. Do you save the receipts that get emailed to you?
Or a little bit, but not very long. Most of my expenses are personal expenses, so there's not much reason to keep them.
Yeah I have absolutely no reason to keep mine either...haha I just do!
I hate clutter. If I don't need it or want it, it gets trashed... or given away in some instances. :D
Given away? "Oh here, have a receipt for these shoes I bought last weekend"
Hahahaha.... NO! Clutter in general. :P
They're gone when I leave the store ;)
I have piles and piles. I am really bad about it.
Me too...I'm reading through all of mine now and it's kind of fun. Remembering all my lunch dates and brunches with friends and crazy midnight errands :)
For about a month.
I used to be bad keeping them. Then I got tired of cleaning out my purse whenever a ridiculous amount had accumulated so now I just throw them out.
You never know, maybe rlands doesn't like mr.rlands' wedding ring. Lucky he has the receipt!
What on earth...
What? Aren't you lucky he had the receipt!?
If mr rlands returned our wedding ring, he'd have some explaining to do.
He pawned it for drug money.
I should've seen this coming...
Well you didn't.
They sit in my purse until the pile becomes unbearable, then they are thrown out.
Exactly. Every couple of months I'll go on a receipt purge...
I don't even have a good reason, but I keep almost all of mine. They're all over my bedroom...
