The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Conservation Camp program provides cooperative agencies with volunteers for fire suppression and other emergencies such as floods and earthquakes. Should there be more of these programs?

I live right in the middle of these programs - they are not just about restitution - they are also about rehabilitation, which is awesome!!!!

Some I suppose, but CA and NY seems to be the epicentres of leftist ideals and policies so I stay away if I can help it.

Same here. New York and L.A. may be huge cities with a lot to offer, but the state politics keep me away.

There's a similar program in Colorado that trains non-violent offenders to fight wildfires - SWIFT (State Wildland Inmate Fire Team). Three dozen of them helped fight the horrible High Park Fire here last summer.

How about restitution? Do you recognize that as superior to punishment?

Sure. It's a win-win. If an inmate wants to serve their time in a productive way, let's do it.

I like that you used the word "restitution." I believe a restitution model should be used for all criminal offenses.

Absolutely. If they're not in for life, they should be given as many opportunities to better themselves as possible.
