George Washington or Abraham Lincoln?
Washington had almost supernatural judgement. when the founders were asked who was the greatest among them, they unanimously chose Washington without question. Read Chernow's biography "Washington: A Life" - he's one of the greatest humans to walk the planet.
both men's lives were blessings on our nation... picked Washington, because without him, there would be no Lincoln.
The only reason that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves was to save the Union from losing the war..
Ever since I little I liked George Washington!
@scrub#1 that's another reason why I like him
I believe that everyone should be equal
no matter of their race gender age or anything else
Lincoln the only republican that does useful things as prez and not anti abortion and all that useless crap
it would be hard to fuck up as the first president.......
I only like Lincoln better because he's on my $5 bill, it's worth more than my $1.
Lincoln was a republican and he was the best president, I think that says it all
@Hazhap when George realized that we didn't take his advice and made parties, he would cry
Without george Washington there would be no Lincoln
Someone's political party does not make them any less admirable if you are losing at what they did and who they were as a whole.
look at the Dems supporting Lincoln who was a Republican
When you think about it, Abe's most famous act, the Emancipation, really had nothing to do with freeing the slaves as it did playing hero for PR.
I've got an idea about what could cause the gender diff. Grown men could go to a slave auction and buy women or children, use them as they pleased and dispose of them with out notice. Women have a better feel for what men will do with that power.
Abe cuz I'm blak nd he freed my people
Shows how much the current republicans have perverted their party when more Dems pick the republican, than the republicans did... Abe would cry
Both were honorable men who definitely did great things for this country, and I admire them both. I simply chose Washington because I find the American revolution more interesting to study. And I wonder what caused the gender differences?
If you like Lincoln say penny and if you like Washington say quarter
Good ole Abe Lincoln.
Washington did much more for our country than Lincoln did. he fought in the revolutionary war, helped found our country, and eventually became our first president. but Lincoln put more energy into his work. if you look at pics of Lincoln over the years, he ages dramatically. they were both good men.
History is like life. It is hard to know what is really going on. Understanding human nature and drivers can help.
As for slavery. Every swipe of the credit card and each show you watch is your choice to hand over your freedom. Cook that frog slowly.
Washington was expected by many to become the king of the US. when he stepped down after two terms, he set the standard for American presidents. Without his understanding of a land of laws, there may never have been a President Lincoln. Not to diminish Abe's accomplishments.
The reason the Hebrews went to war with so many tribes was not because their god told them to. They wanted the land/resources/power. God was the way to get the men to fight. That's the way it's always been with every nation and that's how it will always be.
You guys are still confusing the REASON with the JUSTIFICATION.
There is no contest as you are comparing apples and oranges. Each had his own different contribution. George was an honorable man and a great example to us of what a patriot should be. Abe saw an injustice and did something about it, which took courage.
@ntv: actually jgreene said "slavery was never the reason for war."
@Metal4Life bahaha me too! ;)
I like Lincoln's hat and beard
@106455- No one ever said it wasn't 1 of the reasons- but not the only reason or the main reason.
@dotendov you really have no Idea who is general Washington ? I suggest you open that history textbook you get there ,,, a man with such few solders managed to defeat what was known as the greatest power of that time , the British Empire !
licoln killed all those vampires too. washington's claim was he was the first... big deal.
"If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it...."

Slavery is mentioned over and over in the southern states declarations of secession. South Carolina: 18 times. Mississippi: 8 times. Florida: 14 times. Georgia: 33 times. Texas: 14 times.
@106.. I'm not saying that reuniting was bad for the country. I'm saying the division was not about slavery. And there is hardly peace and harmony today.
george Washington :)
TA = it's ***
Slavery still exists today it just took a different form than what it used to be
@srj1993 I most likely agree with you about this issue but for you to say that slavery started in the middle east is just ignorance from you ! Slavery is a bf debatable subject among historians and TA existence will continue with the existence of men ! Who says slavery is really abolished today?
Washington. He is the one who set the standards for all to follow. The man who would not be King. Good job!
If Washington wasn't the first president he would probably be among the more forgettable ones, nothing against George. Not so with Abe
Read Alexander Hamilton's Federalist Papers. Especially Federalist #7.
@jgreene: There would not be peace and harmony if the union was dissolved. All the same reasons for war would arise. Especially border disputes. Think of all the western lands that were not states yet. Dwell on the serious consequences of two countries.
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter!
You guys need to separate REASON for war from JUSTIFICATION. The reasons for war are always financial or political. In order to get people to follow your greed for power or money into a war, they have to have a moral justification. Few would have fought a war so the North could have cheaper cotton.
@100...- the Civil War was pretty bloody and it settles the borders disputes...
Awesome. All the generals who stood for the colonies faced death sentences for treason. Good thing you picked Washington.
I'll go with the president who literally signed his own death sentence to stand for the rights of man.
