It is reported that Obama's upcoming trip to Africa will cost 60-100 million dollars. The goal of the trip is to build partnerships with the emerging democracies. Is the price tag worth it?
Any emerging free state would happily build their own relationship with us.
Seeing how most things the White House cost billions and this could lead to a friendship well worth the money, I'm all for it.
I think it's worth while. And it's a actually not "up coming" - he's there now. The African continent has never gotten a lot of attention from the US
Sorry I didn't know he was already there. But I agree with you. Africa has some of the most rapidly growing economies in the world with too many resources to know what to do with. I think this is a great opportunity to form bonds for future trade.
Oh that's okay - about the timing - you might want to search YouTube - he's given some awesome speeches - and he has pledged - I want to say 6 billion to helping expand electricity in the continent - some of it is private $$$ I think
Nice, ill have to look them up!
Is this the "vacation" that some people were making a big fuss about a week or so ago, complaining that he's always on vacation & we're paying through the nose for it?
@susanr that would be the one. Sadly I'm behind the times so I didn't find out about it until today. I still think it is a smart "vacation".
