Do you feel that you have a right to vote your version of morality onto other free individuals?

It's for their own good.Morality is imposed because we do have to live amongst others. The acts deemed immoral cause negativity It's a hard enough to like each other now.Everything you do impacts everyone else in all ways. Believe it or ignore it.

It's for their own good, is a line I took from your material. Lawn Mower Man.

You choose to ignore your presences, other's endure it. Good or indifferent you still leave traces. That phrase "leave no trace" when you leave. Does that apply to you? Can you really do that?

We all do this. It's human nature. Who is to say that polygamy, racism, or murder is morally wrong? These actions are doubtlessly considered morally right by some.

Exactly, and just because people do it doesn't make it acceptable

I said yes because I believe that morality is absolute rather than subjective, and as such, is not 'my morality.'
It's just plain morality.

Imposing morality on immoral people based on standards set by the majority keeps us from burning the immoral's at the stake. Who wants to clean up that mess?

You made it, I think you should clean it up.

Of course, everyone has that right. It's what we ALL do. You can't not do it.

06/30/13 1:22 pm

I don't feel you have a right to tell other people that they must live by your standards.

Rebel? Do you vote? If you do, you are using your morals do decide for others.

07/01/13 12:33 am

I vote for the least restrictive option. That is, the morally neutral route.

If there's an amendment banning gay marriage on the ballot and I vote against I'm not pushing my moral on others because it doesn't force them to do anything.

But you ARE pushing your morals on those that do not wish gay marriage in society.

If you honestly didn't want to force your morals choices onto others, you would not vote.

If someone is interested in your beliefs, they will ask. If people don't ask, you should keep it to yourself.

It's not asking about verbalizing your beliefs @EarlyBird. It's asking about voting based your thoughts on morality.

This is what both parties do. Democrats forcing immorals on us whole Republicans aren't and trying to get back to Christian roots!

Not everyone is Christian.

Most people find murder, rape, molestation, stealing, etc to be immoral.

But I am sure that there are people who don't.

I have no issue with laws based off of my morals for things like that..

06/30/13 12:25 pm

I guess the factor is whether or not it directly impacts someone else?

06/30/13 12:26 pm

My point is that there are a lot of laws that you guys would deem as necessary that are based off of morals.

06/30/13 12:38 pm

Good point, I'm going to change my vote to yes.
Rebel :-p

06/30/13 12:44 pm

The key to this question was voting, those laws aren't often put to vote.

@hsim, Did you ever stop to think that perhaps those things aren't 'your' morals, but rather the absoluteness of morality?

pinkyusuck The Carribean. I wish.
06/30/13 2:15 pm

@Rebel, Intellectual honesty check here: What if murder laws were not on the books, and most people saw nothing wrong with killing each other.
Would you vote to outlaw murder?
Yes, or no?

06/30/13 2:27 pm

Pinky, are you saying that in some instances your morals are either right or wrong? Like as if to say some things are absolute truth whether you think so or not?
I'm just making sure I am understanding what you're saying.

pinkyusuck The Carribean. I wish.
06/30/13 3:24 pm

@hsim, I'm saying that morality is absolute, and not subject on an individual's interpretation.

So government is justified because they think we are children and they are our dad.

I was referring to an actual familial situation; our government now feels this way. (Just read Hillary Clinton's "It Takes A village.")

No. Morality is subjective from one person to the next.
