I need names, that are unique but not too long and strange. If you're feeling awesome, let me know some cool names, their meaning, what gender they are specific to, and what you would expect a person with that name to be like. Please :)

Maeve. Casey. Betsey. Augusten. Sailor. No ideas on meanings, but I love them.

Just realized you want ideas...Maeve = sassy, intelligent, Casey = unisex but I think sensitive either way, Betsey = fun and girlie but down to earth, Augusten = brooding and handsome, Sailor = female, head in the clouds, dreamer.

I knew a girl named Lucky (no, that's not a typo) I won't tell you her last name but it was one of those names that make you look at the parents and ask: you just had to do that, didn't you?

Oops. Punctuation mixup. I think it means loved. It's definitely pronounced like that with emphasis on the first syllable.

My sister was going to name her child Luna, if it was a girl. I liked the idea. I don't know the origin, but I presume it's to do with the moon.

It makes me think of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I would expect a Luna to be unique, not worried about what others think, and to have a belief in the impossible.

Luna is also a Hispanic last name

I love the boy name Gage. It means "pledge" or "oath" in Old French according to a site I found. I just think it's a cool name - one I'd use for my own kid.

Marley17 or is it just me...
06/30/13 12:31 pm

I'm trying to find them... And yes, Jezebel, I love that name it's really beautiful.

Marley- meadow near the lake(originally male)
Delaney- Irish multiple defs
Jezebel- Hebrew for pure

Shazam Scaramouche, OH
06/30/13 12:33 pm

So, I posted that before reading it was for book characters. For that, absolutely. For a child, I would think the historical negative connotations would make it questionable.

Marley17 or is it just me...
06/30/13 12:35 pm

Sloane- Gaelic for warrior (male originally)
Hadley- heather meadow
Hayden- (male) hedged valley

Marley17 or is it just me...
06/30/13 12:38 pm

Addison- son of Adam lol

I think Jezebel is cute for a persons name too. And in the bible Jezebel was just like any king in the bible. She did the same things they did but got a bad rap because she was a woman.

Shazam Scaramouche, OH
06/30/13 12:51 pm

Marley, agreed, but the name has become so associated with prostitutes and adultery, if probably stay away. You're right in what you're saying, but it would be a lifetime of explaining the story. Know what I mean?

McKenna- Gaelic and Scottish "ascend"
Dempsey- Irish "proud"
Naveen- Indian "new"

Prostitution and adultery? Sounds like a good character name.

I like Altair. It can be up either a male or female name, and means bird. It's the brightest star in the constellation Aquila. I also like the name Aquila, which sounds feminine but is a male name that means eagle. Altair and Aquila go together.

I like Cassiopeia and Perseus too. More constellation names. A girl's name meaning "clever", and a boy's name meaning "destroyer". I also like Kaos as a girl's name, meaning I assume, "chaos".

06/30/13 11:59 am

For guys, the name "Wolf", or "Fox" would be cool. Very unique, but not outlandish. For girls, I got nothing, buy stay away from car names (Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillac).

I've always loved the name Kai. It has a lot of nature-related meanings I think. Like earth and sea.

My friend had a dog named Abbott. Thought it was such a funny dog name, but it could double for a boy's name. It was a very clumsy/awkward dog...

Damn rlands I'm naming my first born son Kai.

I'm also naming the main character that, with a second syllable.

I love that name so much. It's so perfect.

And what's the main character's name?

Kris Humidity Central
06/30/13 12:07 pm

Kaizen. It just sounds soo perfect.

And then I googled it last night, and it means Kai "change" and Zen "good" in Japanese. Often taken as "change for the better" or "improvement". It's just so perfect.

rlands
06/30/13 12:10 pm

Wait that is soooo awesome! Ah! Perf! I knew a guy named Faizen once...never Kaizen. How would you pronounce that? Like raisin with a k? Or like k-eye-zen?

Kris Humidity Central
06/30/13 12:12 pm

Like K-eye-zen.

But the raisin with a K sounds cool too. But then it can't be shortened to "K-eye" as a short name. And "Kay" as a nickname is kind...effeminate.

rlands
06/30/13 12:14 pm

Right. Then he get the nickname Kai, which, as we both know, is amazing. Sounds like a plan!

Shazam Scaramouche, OH
06/30/13 12:19 pm
