Watching ESPN with my husband this morning, they had a piece on about gay (male) athletes and the controversy over having them use the same locker rooms as straight athletes. Should gay athletes be provided separate locker rooms?
No! Separate can never be 100% equal.
There already are female reporters in male locker rooms all the time.
It wasn't a problem before they knew. And before they knew.. The gay athlete was still gay and never did anything
So why is it a problem now that they know?
Didn't we try "separate but equal" once in this country with disastrous results?
So, since sex is mainly in your head anyway what happens if a gay guy gets caught checking out a straight guys package? Should the straight guy be offended?
What about a guy getting caught checking out a woman's chest or behind? Same principle, I believe. There are those who will be offended, yes, but many will also think, a compliment is a compliment, no matter who it comes from.
Hell no! It wasn't an issue before they knew—why does it warrant this sort of action now? Separating based on sexual orientation is a little absurd
No, are you attracted to EVERY female?
I agree, Beach. I'm not attracted to every male, even. The question was intended to be phrased in an unbiased manner.
There is nothing wrong with men and women having the same locker room neither.
I'm not certain I agree with that idea, just yet. But honestly, I am extremely modest (usually).
I don't blame you but in Europe, they probably wouldn't think twice about it.
True...good point to bring up.
I'm with twss.. However.. As a guy, I want to agree all 100% with you thinkaboutit
I think we are going in the other direction towards unisex everything. I was in a restaurant the other day and both restrooms were unisex. I thought it would bother most people but it actually seemed to be no big deal.
It wouldn't bother me to have a unisex restroom...locker room I am a little hesitant on.
If there was a separate gay locker room my uncle and I may never have hooked up
You made me spit out my coffee!!! LMAO!
Pizza, what a heartwarming story.
They didn't just get gay, and they aren't suddenly unable to control themselves gay, they've been there, and just as gay, all along. Has it ever been an issue in the past, before they were "out"? No. Has anything changed? No.
Ah, Zod. Ever the voice of reason :)
How effin childish!!!!!
Kinda what I thought too.
I do not think so we've had gay athletes since creation. It's not like they're going to jump each other.
I agree, Tops.
No. But this is the same network the airs specials on where Aaron Hernandez is staying in jail and where he poops and what he eats.
Ha! Yeah they talked about him this morning as well.
Men flatter themselves when they think that any gay man is going to be attracted to them. Sorry, but they are not. You have the same parts. Get over it.
They're gay, not perverted predators.
I am pretty sure gays are sex crazed perverts that should be kept separate from normal society
It's not about being attracted to someone. Many Men would feel uncomfortable having a naked woman in the same locker room. Having a gay man in there is equivalent.
Common, my husband made the same point. But I do think most women wouldn't care and most men don't appear to either, at least from this poll.
Pizza, I assume you're kidding.
Illinois and North Carolina, I would love to hear your reasons for wanting separate locker rooms for gay athletes. No arguments, just very curious as to your answers.
Locker rooms should made for males and females, not for attracted to males and attracted to females.
I agree. I cannot imagine being upset by a lesbian in my locker room.
Here was my thought as a woman: if I were an athlete (which I totally am not), I just don't care if I am in a locker room naked with a lesbian. My husband argued that it's not OK to have a straight man in the women's locker, so why allow lesbians?...
...Women's sexuality is very fluid, and bi experimentation is not just accepted but encouraged. To me, a woman seeing me naked doesn't bother me, but a straight male does. Also, with men, their sexuality is black and white, or at least...
...society encourages it to be. Men don't get a free pass to experiment with their sexuality the way women do. The conclusion to this convo was that my husband said he would feel uncomfortable being naked or showering in front of a gay male, but...
...also would feel equally uncomfortable in front of a straight woman. My thinking is that part of that goes back to the fluidity or non-fluidity that society allows in the sexuality of each gender. I am curious to see how this poll comes out...
...because neither my husband or myself are anything but 100% supportive of the sexuality of others, as long as it involves consenting adults, of whatever gender. But his response surprised me. I am wondering if many men feel this way.
I really think it's more of a man thing.. Men have that testosterone that makes them more of a predator. My TOPS group went out of town a couple years ago. My husband was sure this one lady had the hots for him. I told one of my friends
We laughed so hard we almost got sick.
Tops, you crack me up ;) I asked my husband if his discomfort stemmed mostly from modesty (since he would be uncomfortable showering in from of straight women and gay men alike), and he took a sec and then said that might be his reason. He's not...
...full if himself, for sure. But I guess he might have a point. He did say that separate locker rooms for gay/straight athletes were unnecessary.
