"We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions." -Ronald Reagan
Reagan is once again 100% correct beyond the reach of people that try to and fail to advocate for lawlessness.
If all laws were just, then I would agree with personal responsibility. Unfortunately there are many laws that are unjust and in place to protect those in power.
There is an outlier for everything, which is obvious. Do you overall agree with the statement, minus the outliers?
Exactly what laws are you exactly referring to are "unconstitutional" or designed to keep some people in power??! NAME THEM. Along with their statute numeric code.
Individual responsibility! Being accountable for your own actions! How dare you? Stop with this common sense already!
"It takes a village to rob a bank" /s
Horribly dangerous mindset.
Yes. A lack of personal responsibility is horribly dangerous.
Personal responsibility is a very good thing. Frankly, it's something we could use more of as a society. But this quote seems to be implying that that's the end of the story and that we don't need to continue working to improve society. That's dangerous.
Personal responsibility would fix most problems.
Maybe, but it's an extremely unrealistic approach. Society is far too complex to just declare "be responsible" and drop the mic. Not everyone who is gets themself into a bad situation is irresponsible. Could they have done something differently? Sometimes. Were they equipped to see that path? Often not.
The worst areas in our society are where the "it's society's fault I commit crimes" mentality. The communities that are constantly blaming society for their bad choices are stuck in a cycle of crime and poverty. Until they embrace personal responsibility and take accountability for their choices they will remain there.
Disagree. Sometimes laws that are broken are, well, broken. Other times, while some blame should always rest on the crime breaker, it is not only his/her fault, but society does need to take some responsibility. There are more factors that go into crime than "one individual is an idiot."
Agree. Personal responsibility is hard, but it leads to a more prosperous and more satisfying life, in my opinion.
It's a concept not readily understood by liberals.
