Inspired by Krystina: What jobs have you been fired from? Stories welcome.
I was fired from the state once way back bc my drivers license expired abd I didn't realize it for a couple weeks. Then a co worker overheard me talking to my union rep about it and reported be
Just out of engineering school (1970) I took a high pressure management training job in a big company. It didn't end well. I went on to get a Master's in Business Administration and then started a business & grew it over 20 years to 360 employees. My first job wasn't successful in itself but it led me to some big things. I still quote & use things I learned back then.
Only one... I was out on medical leave per a doctor's excuse. I had used most of my leave beforehand to care for my father when he was sick, so when I ran out of time & the doctor wasn't releasing me to return to work. They fired me.
The wild thing was I had returned about two weeks before after a doctor released me to return from an injury & they sent me home after an hour & then a week giving me a run-around about a special kind of excuse that they insisted I have to return.
I was fired once in high school. I wanted to go to MY graduation ceremony instead of working. 🙄🙄
What were you thinking?!!
I know, my priorities were all messed up back then!
All of them. Seven in 11 years
Shitty work ethic?
Never been fired.
Being early pays off.
Darn straight! 😊
Only once.....fired from my job as a PR hack for Microsoft. In short, Steve Ballmer and I did not agree on a few things. I was right.....but he was more powerful....so I got to look for new opportunities and he became a billionaire.
There was the time I was fired because I blew the whistle on a supposed therapist - my supervisor's pet - because he was making sexual advances toward my students, a psychologically vulnerable group of welfare to work women. Great lesson about the job market THEY were taught.
I've often said about the situation that the word is "therapist" not "the rapist".
Sean Connery disagrees
Laid off and rehired for the same job twice.
I've never been fired, but I've been laid off and worked myself out of a contract before.
I was laid off from a position as a software department manager. They laid off almost the entire management staff over the course of a couple months. Crazy.
Then, only my last salaried job, I was the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Project Manager for a software and business process improvement initiative. Once the goal was achieved and the organization got their certificate, they no longer needed someone at my level to maintain it. So they let my contract expire and then traded me out for someone much less expensive.
I'll let you know if that day ever comes (highly unlikely.. my work speaks for itself)
I was laid off from my last job. Does that count?
None, but I left on bad terms once. I was working at Hess when I was 17 for about a week. When morning came I told the manager I was quitting. Obviously I put him in a bad spot and he started lecturing me. I still remember him saying "you'll never work at a Hess again". I started laughing and walked home. Otherwise I've never had a problem with an employer and am pretty dependable. I wouldn't do that today, but I was young and a jerk.
