Is there a correlation between single parenthood and poor socioeconomic status?
Of course there is. Especially when that single parent has no support group around them to help raise the child when they are away at "work" or school. No support group means they don't go to work or the child raises themselves, which is why we have so many confused people in the world today. Throw in "government" support and work goes out the window and poverty is perpetuated from generation to generation.
NY Sen. Moynihan talked about this decades ago. Pissed off his Democrat pals. Which made him mad, and he became a beloved moderate middle-o-road Senator.
I believe a correlation has been proven to be true statistically. I don't recall the numbers I've read, but @coloradical 's claim of 80% seems about right.
It's proven 80% of kids under the poverty line are from single moms.
Not always (not in our case growing up). But usually.
Of course there is. Anytime a father walks away from his family it is going to have detriment impact on them in many ways.
