Caitlin, age 13, suffers from a condition that leaves her only able to grunt, roll her eyes, and use a device to send text messages. Should her parents be legally allowed to euthanize her and end her suffering?

That's a tough one. When did she get the condition?

I like the way you worded the choices.

She would have to make that decision herself

She can make that decision for herself when she is old enough

My ground Sunday and special needs and having a device to communicate I was thinking along those lines for a minute.

And what suffering would that be? If she's that limited, no one can possibly determine that she is even slightly unhappy.

Well:- she can text.

Did you watch the video?

No. That's her own decision to make. Nobody else's.

Too little information to make a real decision. I do like the joke, however!

No real decisions needed.
Although some below did try.

I like the ending. "Hundreds of children are being exposed to harmful levels of stupidity in their own homes. Hear the debate about second hand ignorance on the next In The Know."

No, she can communicate. Is she in constant pain? When I worked in special ed we had one young man who was deaf, blind, had no muscle control whatsoever. Basically he was somebody strapped to a board he could not even sit. I would not kill him.

Totally missed the joke. Sounds like an old man to me. There was a comedian on one time who said she was for abortion. If you could kill him the first nine months of life you should be able to kill them for the next 18 years.

Setting aside the fact that the question is based on a joke, yes, they should (with her input of course).

Would you have euthanized Stephen hawking if he was a teen and you were his parent when his disease took hold?

After discussing it with him, if he insisted, yes.

If she can text, she can think. What are her
wishes. I saw that Onion article. Funny.
Some teens I see look like that. They grunt too.

Sounds like a typical 13 year old.

I think the onion did a news article about a family putting their 13 year old daughter out of her misery.

Of course. Sighing and eye rolling is no way to live! They must end the parent's, I mean girl's, suffering as soon as possible!

If she can send text messages, she has a functioning brain. Euthanasia is illegal in this country. When she is an adult if she wishes to take a lethal injection that is another story.
