I believe it's the natural and desirable next step for civilization. I support free trade, looser immigration policies, international organizations, American intervention, and so on. Of course, some of this should be a gradual change, but a continually more globalized society is the eventual goal.
How would you deal with all of humanity differences? I honestly think the only thing that will unite us as humans is if we discovered intelligent extraterrestrials similar...well hopefully smarter than us.
I hate to be cliché, but diversity tends to strengthen society when it isn't forced, as with a lot of progressive anti-discrimination laws, like affirmative action and the sort of housing laws mentioned in today's main poll. I would credit historical openness towards immigration with some of our success as a country. Humans are always going to be different, but that doesn't mean we can't be unified too. I expect the societal changes that accompany globalization will only strengthen that notion.
Nah your good. Maybe we will be united one day but for now I'd like to wave my Irish Erin Go Bragh flag and look to uniting my own people from British occupation. Then we can think about uniting humans.
Eh...I'm mixed. The EU hasn't done much good for us but the Irish people aren't ready to leave it. I'd leave if it was up to me as I think the EU has been a failed pan-European experiment. But we as a nation are not ready to leave quite yet.
It doesn't create suppression as long as the foreigner is willing to integrate and be beneficial to the development of the nation. That's my take on that. I don't think your so much Anti-Nationalist as so much your anti-Ultra Nationalism. Nationalism in itself is simply having pride in your nation and people, ultra-nationalism is a direct hatred of other people's because they are of a different nation and/or race. See I'm an ethnic nationalist, I want Ireland to remain Irish because I love my culture and people. But if a foreigner wants to work here and live here I'm more then open to that as long as foreigner do not out number the native people. Most Nationalists in my experience think the same way.
I'd disagree I'd say the many wars shows that some people are superior to other people. There for pride in your people, nationalism, is a very justified conclusion.
What the difference? I'm Irish we use the term nationalist to mean pride in your people and nation. Patriotism in the American concept is the same idea.
Generally nationalism is more like putting the state or government ahead of the people and supporting it no matter what, right or wrong (at least that's my interpretation). Patriotism to me is more about supporting the ideals of the nation, and that includes being willing to stand up to the state when it breaks those ideals.
Ah okay. See I would just call that Radical Statism. The job of a government is to benefit and maintain the development of the nation and her people, not be above them like a big brother. So, in the American sense I'm a patriot in the European sense I'm a Nationalist.
