Do you see socialism more as a system that limits life's downside risks by providing guaranteed healthcare, income, etc... or as a system that limits life's upside potential by reducing freedoms, liberties and incentives?

I see it as what it is, an alternative economic system to capitalism in which the means of production are controlled collectively, typically by those within the workplace.
