I agree that the lack of *massive* coverage (as we've had with incidents in France, for example) has to do with it being (a) a more common occurrence in some countries (not just Pakistan, but the same thing happens with coverage of atrocities in troubled African countries as well), (b) it happening "not here," and (c) it happening in a non-majority-white country. Those reasons are sad to varying degrees, but especially the last one.

But really, if every atrocity were covered to the same degree as some recent events in France, our news would be overwhelmed.
