Well, darn. I hope you're as content with it as I am. I figured at 64 and still a postdoc, I wasn't going to be able to compete well with newly minted PhDs in biological research, so I decided it was just time to retire.
In my case, the issue was reduced federal funding of medical research. My boss, for the first time ever, didn't get a couple of major grants renewed, and he had to cut back.
