Yes. In fact, the seemingly deliberate "confusion" over the meaning of the word atheist, as distinct from anti-theist, is why I generally use the terms non-theist or apatheist instead.
obviously if you're atheist you don't worship any gods so it pretty much clears that part up, but accepting that they do worship them is something different entirely
I didn't mean "accept" as "accept that what they believe is true," but as "be ok with the fact that they believe that. Sorry, I shouldn't have been so vague.
My longtime girlfriend is an atheist. I am a Catholic, and a pretty strong one at that. We both feel comfortable talking to each other about our faith. I know about her search and I respect her conclusion, and she knows and respects mine as well.
