Democratic Socialism *is* socialism. Stalin, Hitler, et al. are not socialists.

Hitler called himself socialist to attract people to it. As did Stalin. Socialism wasn't a scary word to these people.

Regarding the USSR, we in the US were taught that socialism was a scary thing to fight a cultural war against the USSR. The word "socialism" has virtually lost meaning in American society because it's been misused in so many contexts.

Kind a like Bernie is not a socialist either but he calls himself one to attract the children.

I don't think Sanders calls himself a socialist to attract people. Socialism is still a dirty word in American discourse. I think he says it because of years in American society of "socialism" being misused to mean something other than "worker ownership of the means of production." He, just like 98% of the population, does not know what socialism is.

Worker ownership is in almost all small businesses. The again I think accountants, programmers, salesmen, HR, CEO's, etc are workers.

Fair enough as long as you understand that it is the corporations and the oligarchs that suckle at the teet of the government.

Why wouldn't they when the money is made available to them? The fault lies with the crony capitalists we elect

Sooooo, the bottom line is that the fault lies with us. We are the ones that elect these guys.

Do we actually have a significant choice? I don't think so.

In a sense, yes, one could argue that the fault lies with us. But I'm on the fence about that. Yes there are plenty of idiots who don't know the first thing about economics who go and vote, but also voters don't know what kind of crony backroom deals the elected are gonna be apart of. Bottom line though, if an elected politician is offering pork you can't blame companies for trying to get some of it.

I agree with part of what you are saying. We keep reelecting our politicians even after we find out they are corrupt. Also, this "pork" being offered isn't one sided. Lobbyist offer politicians and families lucrative corporate jobs for their vote.

No one can complain that this isn't a fair and balanced photo poll.
