Should schools hire ex-soldiers to guard schools from whatever threat presents itself? These guards would be armed with handguns and some with SMGs or shotguns.
No and for one reason. Ptsd. There should be a mental test, and then that would be a great idea.
Better yet, give them to the teachers. They can learn.
No terrible idea
Because what's to stop the kids from overpowering the teacher and taking the gun. And if you want to give guns to teachers you have to get them certified and pay them a lot more for that extra training. Teachers who don't like guns won't use them either, and if it becomes integrated as part of the job then that could seriously discourage people from working as teachers.
Waste of money. School shootings are in all honesty too rare to really devote nationwide reforms to it.
Really they're too rare? That's an understatement
The lives of potentially 20-30 children aren't worth a nation wide effort to stop them from being lost? Damn democrats
Well, we don't need an army of soldiers guarding our kids like that, we are not a third-world country. Instead, maybe allow teachers (that have gone through all the stuff and are qualified and blah blah blah) to keep a handgun or some sort of defense where it is appropriate.
I'm not opposed to it but I think it's frivolous.
Just allow teachers to have guns. If you trust them with educating our children, you can trust them with a gun. Of course, the teachers unwilling to have a gun wouldn't have to have one, but just the mere idea that there is danger to murderer would prevent such crimes from happening.
And good luck with that when a group of kids overpower the teacher and take the weapon.
That's not necessary.
