If the US should ever get a president who is so bad for the country that, if (s)he serves the whole term, let alone two, the country would be left in shambles, would an impeachment or at least a blockade by Congress stop the destructive president?

I think you have the answer to that question in our current occupant of the White House.

We still haven't held GW accountable for the war crimes, so it might take a trump in office to see such a change..

Will we ever get over the messes created by Obama? No one stops him.

That is why the founding fathers gave us the ability to impeach them

No. As has been stated, you can't impeach a president unless he's committed a crime.
This is good because if you look at these comments, everyone seems way too eager to ridiculously exaggerate how "destructively incompetent" almost every single president in history was.

I would hope that if impeachment doesn't work we would have a hero brave enough to perform an assassination in the name of the good of all America citizens.

Impeachment only applies when laws were broken. He can be a crappy president and do loads of damage and not have grounds for impeachment.

We have a system of checks and balances and everything should go through the legislature. This is why the executive actions are so dangerous. They bypass the congress.

I'd say that action is overdue by at least 4 years.

Impeachment would, but blockages by congress seem to make little difference. The parties would have to side together and I don't see that occurring easily if ever.

I'm rather optimistic that due to the powers that can counter a bad President's actions, the damage can be contained.
