Would you rather live under authoritarian capitalism or libertarian socialism?

It's just irritating to mix opposing ideas. There has to be other names for things.

I get it...trust me...but a basic Libertarian wouldn't be for socialist ideas and a real Capitalist wouldn't want an authoritarian government.

Anarcho Capitalism I get, I can even see an Anarcho Communist "state" but to remove the basic principles of an idea and add in its opposing force... Seems like one side is just not there.

Libertarian socialism sounds like an oxymoron

Oxymorons for both, especially the latter. Community worker controlled socialism is impossible so the state has to do all the dirty work. Authoritarian capitalism actually could make sense I guess.

Pinochet, as Luftwaffle said, was an authoritarian capitalist

Libertarianism and socialism don't mix. Free enterprise and a dictatorship also would have their problems too.

Cue the "oxymoron" comments.

So Pinochet's Chile? Sure why not? I'll take the Capitalism.

That's a good example. Pinochet is basically the exact opposite of my ideology.

Authoritarian meaning totalitarian or authoritarian meaning Bernie Sanders?

Bernie's just an old man from Vermont. He's not authoritarian. He's the most libertarian mainstream candidate.

I mean totalitarianism. Free market economy, but few rights, police state, no privacy or free speech, you know.

Economically he's authoritarian. Socially he's not.

So Trump authoritarian.

Well then I guess I'd rather libertarian socialism.

I don't think authoritarianism is a good way to describe regulation and taxation.

But don't get me wrong - I still would not want to live in a libertarian socialist state unless my only other choice is totalitarian.

Libertarian anything> authoritarian anything.

We can have worker ownership of production now. If workers raise capital and take risk to start a company...

That wasn't the question.

Libertarian and Socialist contradict each other.

Socialism means worker ownership of production. It works.

without getting into a debate, libertarianism is basically a way of saying "get out of my pocket and stay out of my life" to the government. Socialism (atleast Bernie's version) includes upping taxes possibly to 55-70% on those who are fortunate enough to make a good income.

To answer the poll, Id rather live under a true constitutional libertarian republic.

Libertarianism is a political philosophy, not an economic philosophy. But if we define socialism as worker ownership of production, as we should, then it makes total sense.

My problem with socialism is that almost every country in Europe and the world is based on it, and their economies are in the tank.

No they aren't lmfao there isn't a single socialist country on the planet.

Both parts of your comment are false. A lot of Europe has a pretty strong economy, and Europe is not socialist. Scandinavia is welfare capitalist; France, Germany, and the like are in between capitalist and welfare capitalist. It's a spectrum. But a capitalism/socialism spectrum doesn't really exist.

Brandon it is possible to have libertarian political beliefs, and socialist economic ones. It's pretty much communism as it was meant to be.
