OPEC controls oil prices however it chooses. Should the U.S. form its own organization to compete with OPEC?
Inaccurate to say they control the price. OPEC controls around 30% of supply last I heard, not sure how up to date that is. They can influence the price but their level of control has slipped greatly, thanks to increased production around the world. If they could, OPEC would much prefer a higher price but the current state works against that.
What we should do is open up national land and offshore drilling so that we can truly become energy independent instead of making empty promises every election cycle.
That and use less oil. OPEC is reeling right now from our reduced demand.
