You are disabled and driving with someone else. They run into the store to get something and you wait in the car. Ok to park in handicapped parking?
Only if a legitimate placard is displayed that belongs to a disabled person who gets out of the car to go into the store.
Absolutely not. My dad, who piggybacked on my mom's very legitimate handicap card (and his use was understandable, just not legitimate because he hadn't applied for a card on his own behalf, but he qualified for it), parked in a handicap spot once when all 3 of us were in the car. I was the only one going into the store, picking up something for my mom. I protested; my dad said, "But you're buying something for *her*" (my mom).
That's not the point, I told him. I'm able bodied; *I* don't need the convenience of the handicap spot. I persuaded him to park at the far side of the lot. I needed the exercise, anyway.
I don't get it. Why would anyone say it is OK?
Not OK. If you need to get out then you move to the handicapped spot. The spot is there so you have to walk the least. If you aren't walking, you shouldn't be parking there.
