Is Bernie "qualified" to be President?

Bernie Sanders has been mayor of Burlington, member of the US house of representatives, the Senator of Vermont and is now running for president. So yeah I think he is qualified to be President.
Whereas Hillary Clinton has been Lady of Arkansas, First Lady of America, member of the US house of representatives and secretary of state. Now this tells me that being more of a paper pusher she really hasn't changed much for the better, whereas Bernie Sanders has been one of the best senators that Vermont has ever seen and if you look at his political out look he has always stayed by his beliefs. Plus he has had to work for his high up status rather than just being Lady of Arkansas and First Lady.
Another good way of comparing Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton is the fact that in the 60s Berine Sanders was marching with Martin Luther king Jr and doing lots of civil rights marches.
Whereas Hillary Clinton was campaigning for the Republican Barry Goldwater.

Yes. He had served thirty five years as an elected official in offices.

Why does everyone ask this question?

To be qualified to be president, you need to be a naturalized citizen, 35 years old.

To be a good leader, is something different.

I would like to see Bernie versus Ted Cruz. How are Republicans going to explain away how Ted is able to be President when even he admits that he wasn't born in the U.S. Is it OK that a Republican wasn't but a Democrat absolutely can not because he was not born here even though his birth certificate says that he was. That's strange how that works.

No Socialist is qualified to be POTUS

04/10/16 5:59 pm

It's not so Black & White. A pure socialist qualify to be POTUS. But a modern day Democratic Socialist is just what this country needs. Takes the good from both socialism & capitalism and leaves the bad. It should really be called
Social-Capitalism or Capital Socialism. They had to add the word Democratic because of small minded people who can't get out of the Cold War mentality.

Bernie Sanders is serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote. Yessy French Texan

04/08/16 12:32 pm

How can a poor person work for an education if the only job he or she can possibly get is a minimum wage job, or barely above minimum wage job, which barely pays for the bills? those are the jobs that poor people are restricted to. Most poor people are born into poverty, which means their parents most likely can't afford to give them a good education. And IF poor people to work up enough money for education, at best, they'll only be able to afford a mediocre education. If they take out loans they will most certainly be graduating with debt up to their eyeballs as well. Not only that, sad to say that most poor are minorities, which means there will most certainly be de facto discrimination in the workplace as well. It's easy for rich to say "work hard" because they've never experienced the hardships of poverty. In poverty, you work hard, but barely move. It's like running in quicksand.

Minorities can't afford a good education??? Go read the qualifications for grants and scholarships. I was a white female at the age of 29 looking for college assistance and while reading through grants and scholarships I only qualified to apply for a few. There is a ton of money out there and if minorities that are poor LOOK can get A LOT of help! Again.. Work harder!

coldstoneMemery technoprogressive

04/08/16 12:38 pm

Socialism is one step under communism. You are right about that, but communism itself is not evil. It's been the people that have abused communism's principles that are evil. It's like super powers....the super powers arnt's how you use them..either for good or evil.

ParaguasPato Columbus GA
04/08/16 4:02 pm

Capitalism is one step under anarchy. Anarchy is scary.

You'll quickly notice the falsehood of that statement because capitalism is almost nothing little like anarchy. Similarly, even though in pictures of the political spectrum socialism is one step away from communism, socialism and communism are entirely different things. In one the government owns and controls everything including its people. In the other the people collectively control, but not own, the means of production. And by the way, sanders is a democratic socialist which is even further from communism. A democratic socialist believes in high government oversight of the means of production. The only thing that all three have in common is free healthcare and public schooling, one of which we already have.

If you do not then socialism is the inbetween from capitalism and communism. America is socialist. If it was not socialist there wouldn't be free fire departments and police stations. Everything would be a private company that could charge whatever.

America is capitalist, with a few socialist qualities and programs such as Medicare.

MemeThief Not Authoritarian
04/08/16 12:05 pm

Guys, none of that is "socialism". Socialism is worker ownership of the means of production. This is just Keynesian capitalism, social democracy, whatever you want to call it, it's just social spending in a capitalist system.

04/08/16 12:09 pm

He says we need a "revolution". That's scary. Therefore he is probably worse than a socialist.

MemeThief Not Authoritarian
04/08/16 12:14 pm

Tactics =\= ideology
Also, he's talking about "a different kind of politics" or whatever marketing BS. The "revolution" refers to something like giving people "free" stuff instead of supporting companies.

04/08/16 12:16 pm

What if it turns into a real socialist revolution.

04/08/16 12:43 pm

Socialism is an economic system AND a political system, therefore there are qualities of the U.S. that are socialist, as that one man said, Medicare.

Bernie was a weak ineffectual senator. He's passed 3 bills and 2 of them were renaming Post Offices. His economic policy looks like something he got from a 14 year old. He fails to explain how he will pay for the 10 trillion debt he will give us and doesn't acknowledge the fact Wall Street will simply move if you try to tax them per transaction, which still wouldn't pay for his ridiculous empty promises. By the letter of the Constitution he is qualified. Honestly I like a lot of his social and foreign policies...I can't get behind the socialist economic thing though.

Less things in this country need laws being made or restrictions being enforced:
We don't need to be told what we can and can not buy.
We don't need to be told who we can or can not marry.
We don't need to be told what we can or can not do with our bodies or our lives.
