In honor of the 120th anniversary of the modern Olympic Games, which Olympic event would you compete in if you could?
There is nothing I would have a chance at. They don't have a category for letting cats sit on you.
Three position rifle.
Evening would be awesome!
A figure skater, like the beautiful Katarina Witt.
If I could gymnastics or ice dancing (pairs).
Javelin or biathlon depending on season
R U asking about summer or winter games?
Speed skating because I did that during grade and high school.
Alpine skiing...the Downhill. Requires skill and more courage than any other Olympic event. I'm a skier, but it's hard to imagine skiing at that level.
Olympic weightlifting 🤑🤑🤑
Track high hurdles
Or archery, which I'm actually good at
Ski jumping. And I would be a "mouth open" jumper lol.
Fencing I think. I'd have to learn it first. That or Archery. I'm too clumsy for ice skating
Fast walking. It's a thing.
Swimming butterfly 100 meters.
I'd like to try my hand at archery, although I would have to learn it first.
West coast or east?
East Coast! I have surfed in some really neat spots though- like Sylt Island off the Northern coast of Germany. I've been to Hawaii a few times & South France. I've been to CA (Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay & Dana Point) , & ya, West Coast surfers are awesome!! I was kind of intimidated😳
Nice! I've always wanted to travel and surf all over the world. I've never been to the east coast either. I've been all over the west coast and Hawaii. Have you surfed the pipeline?
Sweet!! Ya, I surf off RI, Long Island, & occasionally NJ & NH during the summer. I've been to SC, GA, & FL, & they're all consistent (wave action) whereas up north, where I am, the weather & waves are all over the place. Pipeline? Hahaha! Ummmm... Well, I intended too & was in the water but I sort of just watched lol! I'm not that great!! I'm not bad either but I still get nervous when there's a lot of people in the water.
Basketball because I'd be guaranteed a gold medal
Have you seen that episode of Malcolm in the middle?
Those helmets…reminded me of Jessie's hair from pokemon.
To protect the world from devastation
I'd definitely run the marathon
I'd have to join Dara Torres on the middle age swim team. I've been racing the 100 IM, 400 free, and 100 fly since I turned 40.
Now that surfing is officially an Olympic sport (finally), sign me up!
Ice dance, after all, I already do it.
I know I'll be the only one choosing this one. In college we had a club Team Handball team, which I played on. It's a really fun sport, popular in Europe. Think water polo without the water, played on a basketball court. If not that, I'd play baseball, if they'd reinstate it into the Games.
Last I heard, there's a good chance baseball will be played at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
That's awesome! I didn't think it would be reinstated because of the World Baseball Classic.
After googling it, it's confirmed that the following sports have been added to the 2020 games: baseball/softball, bowling, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, surfing, and wushu.
I take that back. The list is actually: baseball/softball, karate, sport climbing, surfing and skateboarding
Also, the official decision regarding these sports will come in August but based on what I'm reading it's almost certain.
I think the WBC is next year, isn't it?
That's good to hear. You better start training. I want to see you and your birdie up on the podium.
Yeah, the WBC is in March '17.
Lol I suck at baseball/softball dude. I'm an excellent fielder but I can't hit for shit.
No no no - I'm talking about you on the surfing team!
Lol. Well I am pretty good, but not nearly good enough to compete on that level. Otherwise I would've already done the X-games by now 😋
Aww, too bad. I thought there might be a new version of Eddie Would Go. Eukie Would Go!☀️🌴
Lol. Funny enough, my dad knew Eddie Aikau.
So was your dad a surfer, and passed his skills on to you?
Yes, and he still surfs.
We watched two handball games during the 1996 Olympics. Fun sport!
Lol, Kay, we might be the only two in SOH who've seen the sport.
