Half a glass of water leaves just enough room for whiskey & ice cubes. :-D

It depends on how I'm feeling at the moment. Right now, I'm pretty optimistic. Yesterday, I wasn't.

To an engineer, the glass is 100% full. 50% air 50% water.

If you're pessimistic, you're never disappointed

My argument for being a pessimist: As an optimist, you are positive everything will work out. There are two final emotions, disappointment & as expected.
As a pessimist, you're sure things will not work out well. There are also two final emotions, pleasantly surprised & as expected.
I would rather go through life pleasantly surprised a good amount of time than disappointed.

The default state of glasses in general is empty. That is how they are typically manufactured, transported, and stored. So if there is anything in a glass at all, it is an increase from empty. Halfway to the maximum fill line is half full.

A glass in its natural state is just an empty glass. Therefore if it is not completely full with something, it is empty to a certain extent, could be half empty, or could be a few drops empty.

Be a realist. Half the glass has water in it. The other half doesn't.

My glass is full. Half with liquid and half with air.
It reached that point by either adding air or liquid.

I have always said it depends. If you filled it all the way and drank half, it's half empty. If you filled it half way and stopped there, it's half full.

I've always been rather pessimistic, skeptical, and critical. I guess that means seeing the glass half empty. I don't own a pair of rose-colored glasses either.

It's simply half a glass, I need more context to tell whether it's filling or emptying. I'm an analyst and a realist.
