Yes, but why not just change it to a weekend? Friday night at 6 till Sunday night 8 pm. Even us procrastinators should be able to handle that.

So banks are closed and federal employees and schools are off and poor people still can't vote but they get holiday pay.

Why? So they can use it as an excuse to close the polls for the "holiday", or so poll workers can get holiday pay for one of the few days a year they're working? Makes no sense to me at all. The polls are open early, late, and at lunchtime, and the very few who work more than a twelve hour day shift on certain Tuesdays can vote by mail. Assuming they don't live in one of the enlightened states where everyone votes by mail already. Which is the better solution to the non-problem.
