Sub. Hoagie is the only other name I see with any regularity.

Either a submarine, hero or hoagie depending on the restaurant. Most around here use submarine.

It seems "hoagie" originated in Philadelphia. Florida has so many people from all over, we get different names in different restaurants, depending on where the owners are from. I found a small history.

I haven't heard of that chain. BTW, I'm born and raised in Bernie's birthplace:).

Isn't a gyro wrapped in flatbread or a pita? And specifically made with rotisserie-cooked meat?

Oh yeah; that's fabulous stuff. Ever make your own? Easy, and makes a good dip too.

It's a small regional chain in just a few states. It bought out the very similar Sunflower Farmers' Market here a few years ago.

The store is just a couple blocks from my apartment, and I shop there once a week at least. Mostly for produce, sometimes meat or dairy, or the occasional "health food" type stuff. I was really pleased to find it so close to me when I moved here - I barely noticed the difference when it became Sprouts.

That's what they're called in Louisiana and south Mississippi. Originally poor-boy sandwich.
