I will vote for anyone you put up against FDR except Obama or Carter or Wilson. They are the only three presidents worse than him.

What about Buchanan, Johnson, or Pierce? Those guys were atrocious

Doing nothing positive is not nearly as bad as doing many things that are negative.

How did Johnson even make it this far? He and Buchanan shouldn't even be in this

This whole thing is for fifth place. Once a president is put into the rankings, it starts all over. Johnson and Buchanan haven't won anything, it was just their turn to go against the current winners (John Adams and FDR)

Okay but I've seen the same guys lose over and over again but I haven't seen a president from the 20th century in a long time

Ritter's not redoing any matchups, so we won't see people from after Roosevelt until Roosevelt wins.

Ok, the last time you saw those guys lose was when we were finding out who was fourth place. Now we're finding out who is fifth place, so we start all over without the guys we put in the top four. The reason you haven't seen any presidents from the 20th century is because FDR beat all of them and Teddy Roosevelt beat FDR. Therefore, we had to pit those two against everyone in the 18th and 19th century before we pit anyone else against each other. Once FDR is put into the rankings, we will start over and we will start with the first president that FDR beat (Eisenhower). Makes sense?

Terms served:

Johnson: 1
Roosevelt: 4

Years in office:

Johnson: 1865-1869
Roosevelt: 1933-1945

Parties:

Johnson: Democratic
Roosevelt: Democratic

Vice Presidents:

Johnson: None
Roosevelt: John Nance Garner, Henry A. Wallace, Harry S. Truman

Greatest accomplishments (arguably):

Johnson: Purchased Alaska from Russia during tenure

Roosevelt: Decreased unemployment rate 25% to 2% over his tenure

Greatest failures (arguably):

Johnson: Had a very unpopular Reconstruction policy that led to Confederate Leaders regaining positions of power in the South

Roosevelt: Allowed Japanese internment camps to take place in the US during World War II

I'm pretty sure you're way off on the unemployment numbers for Roosevelt.

Oh true, my bad. I was only thinking of the Depression years.

It was totally because of WW2 though, not the New Deal.

I agree with you, I just thought the unemployment rate was a good way to quickly summarize his role in the Great Depression. He may not have decreased it THAT much, but he decreased it a ton.
