This one really surprised me. I put jelly first because it's way easier to clean off the knife

I have someone allergic to peanuts in my family, if I want to use the same knife I have to put the jelly on first so it doesn't get peanut butter in it.

I think it's because peanut butter comes first in the name

I put the peanut butter on one side and jelly on the other and then put it together.

I put jelly on first because it's easier to get it off the knife when I put the remaining on the other slice. I don't like getting peanut butter in my jam jar

I am weird. I slab the peanut butter on and it has to be even on all sides. And thick. (good luck with that k?) Then you put just enough just enough jelly to taste. You got yourself a choke sandwich.

I don't know, I have never made it. The combination sounds weird.

It's common in Flotida, at least

I don't make them, I hate peanut butter. So i'd put the jelly on first, then skip step 2.

People, people, people. Put the jelly on one slice, wipe knife on other slice... clean knife and NO JELLY IN PEANUT BUTTER JAR when scooping peanut butter out!!! Clean, simple, no mess, no wiping off knife between spreading jelly and peanut butter !

Try it... You can thank me later...

First I put a thin layer of butter on both slices. Then PB on one slice and using the same knife, spread jam on the other slice. Put them together and you have a delicious sandwich.

Nothing worse than jelly crystals in your peanut butter 😖. Peanut butter, then use the same knife for the jelly. No yucky dried jelly in your peanut butter 😂😂

Jelly is easier if you put it on first, cause if you're like me, and rinse the knife in between, jelly is easier to get off the knife.

Pb on one jelly on the other. I don't apply jelly straight on pb or vise versa

I'm allergic to peanut butter, so I don't make PB&J sandwiches. But I assume that since it's called PB&J that the PB would come first.

Put PB on both slices of bread, jelly in the middle, no soggy sandwich when the jelly seeps through, no jelly slipping out.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out the day's sign of the pending apocalypse. You can now buy frozen PB&J. It was so difficult choosing which to put on first and cutting off the crust that Smucker's said "Fine, we'll do all that for you." Holy cow, we're lazy.

You put the peanut butter on ONE slice of bread, then you put the jelly on the OTHER slice. Flip the PB slice onto the jelly slice, then flip the sandwich over and serve.

Indeed. When I answered I said neither since it'd been so long I'd forgotten, but when I saw your answer I remembered, yep, that's how I did it. I never saw the need for double layers of ingredients. One layer of each works perfectly.

Peanut butter because I have squeeze jelly and I hate using a knife with jelly on it to then apply peanut butter results in cross contamination of jelly into my peanut butter jar. Yes it's sad I'm so passionate about this... 😧

I can't bring myself to do it... I don't like the thought of the bacteria in my mouth turning that peanut butter jar into a culture sample. My only alternative is wiping it on the clean slice of bread.

Jelly first so you can wipe it off on the bread so you don't get jelly in the peanut butter container or vice versa. It's a lot harder to clean off peanut butter from a knife than from jelly, you people are CRAZY!

If it's that big of a deal, couldn't you just use two knives? They only take a second to wash.

Jelly on one piece first.

That way the knife is clean after I lick off the residue jelly.

Then the P.B. on the other piece of bread followed by folding the P.B. over and on top of the Jelly.

I use the same knife and our jelly is in the squeezable bottle while the peanut butter is in the jar. It only makes sense to use the clean knife with the peanut butter first.

I put them both in a bowl and mix them up. Easier to get the perfect peanut butter to jelly ratio that way.

Jelly on one side first. I do this because then I can easily rinse the knife and use the other slice of bread for PB.

SOHers may not agree on very much, or even agree on anything. But here's is a topic of near unanimous agreement. Peanut butter goes on first.

The different viscosity is imo the best argument. Jelly flows easier while pb is stickier. If you put the jelly first, the pb will spread it around and make a mess.

And then there's those that put peanut butter on both slices and jelly in the middle. This is to keep the jelly from soaking into the bread, especially if it's to be eaten later.

Really, really hard to do a good gob of smearing thick sticky peanut butter over slippery jelly. The other way around, or mixing both in a cup first, works a lot better.

You should give this brand a try if you see them in the super maker next time. They make a really good honey peanut butter, and other variations to.

Put peanut butter in alternating squares like a chess board, then fill the remains squares with peanut butter.
