Populism is a blanket term for anything the majority wants. That could mean authoritarianism or anarchism or anything in between.

Populism on a political compass is considered authoritarian. This authority can be abused by the left to dismantle a county's economy and social values by using force to silence "Islamophobia", large welfare state, Gov endorsed gay pride celebrations, and especially forced diversity. These are Liberal's version of populism and is a nightmare scenario.
On the other hand, Right wing populism is something I admire. Its principles often include Border security, strong police force against crime, drugs, and violence, National measures to preserve culture and identity ( banning gay marriage, Ending Islamist invasion, and supporting eugenics). Economically right wing populism tends to be central which tends to be fairly efficient and logical.

Either way, the term populism is a blanket term for anything a majority of people want. It could be left, right, authoritarian or anarchist.
