Have you or someone in your immediate family been audited by the IRS over the past five years?

Yes. And I still could've presented my tax returns while they were doing it.....

I have an aunt and uncle who are retired farmers who get audited every other year. They are very honest people and the IRS never finds anything wrong but they continue to be harassed.

My stats could be dated by a few years, but when I last studied taxes we learned that less than 2% of returns are actually audited. Of course, there are certain circumstances that bump you up higher on the list quickly and make it more likely for you to be selected.

We've never been audited. At least, not yet.

If there no significant results, you can actually tell this to the IRS. This is their "harassment audit" policy.

It's because they challenge how many miles he drives for work. It doesn't matter what documents we provide, they just won't accept it.

My BFF is like family. Yeah, never knew audits are for life; at least that is how long it feels like.

No; not recently or ever, as far as I know.

Someone with the same first and last names, appearantly cheated and I got sent a 43,000 bill. When I showed up to dispute it, they saw there was no way I could have been born in 1953. IRS got one right.. ..

Yes, twice in the past 5-6 years.
Inquiry by the IRS for documentation I send it, they ignore it and send a bill. Repeat for about 2 years because everything is done via snail mail and they keep sending a bill and raising fees.
Next thing you know $36 so-called "owed" turns out to be $789.

You don't have to be rich to be audited, trust me I know...

No, but it's only a matter of time before they audit me. I am loud and vocal in my opposition to the IRS.

No, and I hope it stays that way. I just finished filing for this year last weekend, and am hoping for the best.

Yes. While the taxes are relatively low here compared to the UK, the system is immeasurably more burdensome for the average person.
