Considering their full acting careers, who has had the better roles?
Let's ask batman or obi wan
McKellan is a WAY better actor, but Neeson is more bankable.
Great question! Should be a series. The below comes from IMDB.
Liam-105 rolls starting in 1978
Ethan From, Oscar Schindler, Rob Roy, Michael Collins, Jean Valjean, Qui-Gon Jinn, Ducard/Ra's Al Ghul (Batman Begins), Aslan, Bryan Mills (Taken), Hannibal Smith (A-Team), Zeus
Ian-also 105 rolls starting in 1965
Hamlet, King Edward, King Richard, Macbeth, Adolf Hitler, Magneto, Gandalf, Sherlock Holmes.
The problem is that as Gandalf, Ian gets SO many bonus points. It quite possibly is the best casting/acting performance in cinema. That said, Liam has had more iconic rolls.
I must give my vote to Liam.
They have the same number of roles? That's a cool coincidence.
Surely you knew that! That's why you picked them. 😜
Most of them are smaller roles. Ian had many TV movie credits and his first large role was Magneto.
Liam broke out into major roles in Next of Kin.
Oh gosh, hard question. I just keep clicking back and forth.
I haven't decided yet, either.
I don't think it's close at all
I agree with Coffee. It's not even close.
Magneto was overrated.
Whether or not you liked Liam as QGJ, he was objectively brilliant as Oskar Schindler.
And that's exactly why I'm stuck. Schindler's List is one of my top ten favorites. But...so is Lord of the Rings.
Sir Ian McKellen:
So 2 of the most iconic characters ever vs a character that almost ruined Star Wars with his "midichlorians" crap. No contest.
To be fair, Oskar Schindler.
That's one movie. Plus, look at the overall picture. You show a picture of Magento to 75% of the population, they will know who it is. You show them Liam from Schilender's List, probably less than half will know.
Liam was in the SW prequels. I rest my case
So Ian in a landslide
