Trump now stands at 38 - 41% depending on which poll you believe. Way above Cruz and the others. Do you think his numbers will increase again after the Republican debate tonight?

If amateurish salvos over his bow are taken, his support will strengthen and grow. The Republicans are going to ruin their party irreparably if they move towards a brokered convention with the goal of ousting Trump from the party, they will prove their ultimate disassociation from their electorate.

Then why are his numbers increasing?

They aren't increasing among the general electorate. Trump gets slaughtered by Clinton.

Actually a poll in Colorado showed both Trump and Cruz ahead of Clinton.

Okay, so they're ahead in one swing state, but they're still behind in the plurality of other states. The Republicans are at an electoral disadvantage and we require more than just one swing state to end eight years of a Democratic White House.

No, that poll was an anomaly. His numbers will go down even if he kills this debate, which he couldn't do in the first place because of his sparse policy platform.

Which poll? The one putting him at 38% or the one putting him at 41%?

Both of those polls do not fit the general trend. I expect to see his numbers return to the low thirties or high twenties where his average lies.

Why do you think his numbers were so high in 2 separate polls from separate institutions?

It's a blip in support. It happens from time to time.

One must remember that the 38-41% is of the 32 -37% of the general republican leaning responders out of the 63% of the eligible voters. Which puts his support at 10% at most.

Well, it's higher than anyone else.

The generally leaning Republican voters is closer to 50% counting independents and Democrats that historically lean Republican by vote.

No one will watch the debate. Everyone will be watching Firefly on SOHHO.

He is a big bunch of fluff. Whether he is on his own or encouraged to be where he is by the powers that be is the question. He is a distraction and will drop away soon, then Jeb Bush will take off like a rocket. Mark my words. No I don't like Jeb. Hillary has too much baggage. Jeb will win. Just my little opinion.

Burnout with the the public. Jeb will come on as fresh without all this hoopla so early on.

You don't think he's too far behind to make it up?
